Deer Regulation ?

Recommended Posts

I understand that you can only take one legal buck a year but my question is if you Bow hunt in a Managed deer zone and take two does and you still slug/rifle hunt in a hunter choice zone can you take a yearly total of 3 deer?

Totally wrong! You can only shoot another deer after you shoot a buck in any area, and a doe in a managed area or a intensive area, if you are party hunting in a managed area.

You tag another deer except in an intensive only when hunting by yourself!

Statewide Bag limits for Deer

A hunter may tag one legal buck per year, without exception. Although

hunters can buy all three licenses, the bag limits may not allow all three tags

to be illed in a single deer area. it is the hunter’s responsibility to know the

bag limit for the areas they hunt.he statewide bag limit for deer is ive.

Lottery Deer Areas—he bag limit is one deer total per year, regardless of

license type. if you take a deer in a lottery deer area, you cannot take another

deer in another lottery or hunter choice deer area. However, you can take

deer in managed or intensive deer areas, as well as some special hunt areas

with a valid permit, provided you adhere to the regulations and bag limits for

those areas. Bonus permits are not valid in lottery deer areas.

Hunter Choice Deer Areas—he bag limit is one either-sex deer total

per year, regardless of license type. if you take a deer in a hunter choice deer

area, you cannot take another deer in another hunter choice or lottery deer

area. However, you can take deer in managed or intensive deer areas, as well

as some special hunt areas with a valid permit, provided you adhere to the

regulations and bag limits for those areas. Bonus permits are not valid in

hunter choice deer areas.

tmvikings if you are hunting a "managed" area you could take 1 doe with a bonus tag and then still gun hunt the hunter choice area. But I believe that if you use your regular tag also while bow hunting in that managed area (total of 2 deer), then you cannot take another deer from the hunter choice area during the firearm season unless you are party hunting and filling the tag of a member of your deer party hunting in the field with you. At least that is my understanding of the rule in a shortened less confusing version. wink If you want 2 does I would bow hunt an intensive area and get a couple bonus doe tags. That way you could still go for your buck during the firearm season.

So, 2 antlerless by bow in Managed area. Then any deer in a HC area with your firearm.

You are 100% ok to do that.

Not sure where your getting this from??

I understand the regs as you can do the situation you stated so long as your in different zones and don't shoot more then one buck!

LOL.

Love these questions.

I'll be filling my shotgun season tags in a managed zone and then proceding to a lottery zone to fill another tag during muzzy season. Must use your main tag in a lottery or harvest choice zone.

If all else fails, i've got a archery tag to use as well.

Nice help finlander laugh

So if I shoot a buck with my right handed gun and I change to a left handed gun can I shoot another buck in a different zone crazy

No No No, thats all wrong. It doesn't matter if the gun is right or left handed. What matters is color of the gun and length of your beard.

If you shoot a deer with a black gun you can then switch to a gun with a camo pattern to take a 2nd deer assuming your beard is longer than the 2 inch minimum. The beard must be measured from the mid point of the chin while making sure not to pull on the beard while measuring. Its best to have an offical beard ruler supplied by the DNR so you know you are measuring correctly. A CO will be using one of the officail rulers if they stop you and need to measure your beard.

If your beard is under 2 inches or if you're clean shaven you'll need to purchase a secondary "No Beard" license to harvest a 2nd deer. These aren't cheap and they also stipulate that the license official who sells you the license obtains the rights to name your next child.

I know it sounds far fetch but I got this information straight from a friend who's sister in law's best friend had her nails done by a woman who is married to a CO so you can take it to the bank.

To make this short and sweet, ignore Finlanders post and YES you can shoot two does in a managed area and a buck in a lotto or hunters choice.

+1

Jameson seems to be the reg guru when it comes to the bag limits but if all else fails email the DNR then you have backup wink

Since the measuring point is at the chin I'd assume a goatee would be acceptable but I don't see it clearly stated anywhere. Leave it up to the DNR to leave everything vague and open to interpretation.

Also no mention of letting one hair grow to 2 inches. Its probably best to contact your local CO directly to get their take on beard density. After all they'll be the ones doing the meauring.

Measuring point at the chin!!!!! Darn it, I've almost got the two inches in the side chops area, but the chin growth is fallen behind. Thankfully it is a late firearms season this year to give the beard growth a little more time.

You really have to have a good shave/trimming plan in place this time of year, its all part of a sound hunting strategy. Trim too much and you'll be out a 2nd deer, trim to little and the wife won't come near you.

Thankfully with the late season this year we all have a little more time to cultivate our beards.

I've noticed a size correlation between the length of my beard and the size of sturgeon I catch.... It's the big fish beard...

So I can see why the DNR made beard length part of deer hunting because it fits right in with APR and letting the little antlers walk wink

Is it too early to ask if I'll need my auger extension for a January trip to LOW?
