I was killing some time on the Internet waiting for a phone call when I came across an article on five things a father should teach his son, the guy didn't have a clue what he was talking about. So this is what I have so far, what do you think you should teach your son?

How to tie at least three different kinds of knots

The list of course applies to girls to, they should know these things too

Girls don't need to know all those IMO. Got three girls myself and I figure I raise them to be good wives, and the rest of you raise your boys to be good husbands, we will all win.

That is a good list though, I like that. Fishing has got its own list all by itself. How to knot, bait, hook, hold the fish, just keeps going!

Some things I have tried to instill in my sons, in no particular order.

Knowing HOW to think is much more important than knowing what to think.

Healthy skepticism is a good thing.

History is full of examples of everyone being wrong.

An honest "I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer.

Mom and Dad are only usually right.

Don't listen to pastors or politicians without hip boots on.

You should go to great lengths to avoid a fight, but be prepared to win just in case.

Don't die for your beliefs, you could be wrong.

Value logic, reason and evidence. Shun dogma and those that spread it.

Enjoy life, be happy and help others do the same.

What I think when I read this is that it is very important to be present for your sons/daughters. I have worked with some fathers who do excellent work/make lots of money but that is all they do. In my humble opinion, their kids are in need of lessons from dad.

There is certainly a standard of living that needs to be met which requires financial backing but going beyond that has its own costs.

Teach them about ecosystems and the circles of life.

Selective harvest to sustain the ecosystems.

How to survive in extreme weather situations.

How to take care of themselves.

A hard work ethic and experience will get you a job faster than no work ethic no experience and a 4.0 gpa.

I can drink from a fountain without using my hands and Why on earth wouldnt you wash the truck first if its that dirty.

Ahh Grass Hopper... The drinking water truly means that you don't need to make things harder then they are. The muddy truck shows you that a little preparation (washing the truck) will save you time and dirty hands later. ( Bobby now takes large stick and bangs gong with it and bows in your direction ) Should be noted that it is a facet not a fountain that you are drinking from. ( bangs gong again)
