From the stand reports

Took the first deer I saw yesterday morning. It was a nice 8 pointer. I didn't have this one on camera and it was bigger than the other 2 8's I had pictures of. Went out with my dad during the evening and had 4 does come through.

Nailed him with about a 40 yard shot (with the old Rem 1100). Will post pictures later.

Took a big 8 today with the bow. Moved through on a doe at around 830 and couldnt get a shot then again at 930. He was hot on that doe almost at a full sprint and somehow I got him to stop in my small shooting window. Was so awesome heard him grunting from 125 yards out and came all the way. The doe led him right behind my stand at 22 yards and the rage crushed him. He piled up after 40 yards. I will post pics as soon as my phone is charged. It died cause I had to text or call everybody. Field dressed at 189.7 and score 129 gross and 126.5 net. Just me doing the measurement so somewhere in there is close

Took a mature 3-pointer today. About 18 inch inside spread between antlers, and a big body. Looked to me like maybe 2.5 or 3.5 years old. That's four deer seen in two days in the same location out in the big woods, including three different bucks. Think I'll be camping overnight in that spot the Friday before next year's opener! gringrin

Sorry, no pics. You'll just have to drool over my monster buck in your imaginations. gringrin

Steve, My folks live right in the middle of the Echo Trail, about 2 miles from the Moose river. Do you get up there often, maybe you know them? We also have 80 acres off the 200 road that we hunt, I didn't make it up there this year, but waiting to her how they did. PM me and I'll send you their name. Good job on taking the buck.

Sorry not from the stand but a total of five of us saw four doe's sitting in our stands Saturday and Sunday and around fifteen on the drives.. We also pushed a few groves and both had bucks pop out but our shooting was rusty and both made it away. Both were connected with doe's and followed them everywhere Made it tricky to not hit the doe while going after the buck. Trail camera had eight nice bucks on it but this wind kept the deer from moving in our area and only heard one other shot in the near area with limited long distance bangs. We were around St James. Others at the hotel said it was tough also. Need more doe tags they were every where when pushing!!!

DHost21 that is a very nice looking deer...I like the dark rack.

For me on the weekend I saw 1 doe and shot 1 doe...but that was at 10 on Saturday morning and I hunted the whole weekend. Sure hope it picks up in the next week.

My group got one 2.5 year old 8 point, I passed on two does at around 9:30 Saturday morning. Our group didnt see anything the rest of the day. Sunday was so windy that at 7:30 I got down to still hunt and didn't see a darn thing. The wind had them hunkered down and not moving. Our group saw nothing Sunday, but we quit at 9:30 because the wind was so bad.

A friend with a group of 16 went 0-16 sat-sun, but shot 7 this morning. When the wind dies down tonight they should really be moving. I'll be out tomorrow when it does!

Not from the stand but an overall report. Hunting on new property and group went 4 for 5 with one hunter shooting all 4 deer. He finally put his rifle away! The same hunter also missed a doe that he should have taken immediately per our discussion of party hunting and my tag but he delayed and missed a much harder shot. He also missed the buck that was following his first doe that another member of our party had also missed him on opening morning. I'd say he was covered up by deer as compared to the rest of us and he even gave up his stand to another member of the party after opening morning. He is apparently a deer magnet!

My son couldn't fit on this new property and ended up hunting with his girlfriend's family and he put down 2 does on opening morning. This party typically averages a single deer every year hunting public land so he helped them out quite a bit this year. They ended up with 3 for opening weekend and the rain on Saturday evening may have cost my son another deer that he was positive he hit and jumped very close to where he shot while searching for blood in the dark--nothing found on Sunday morning.

All in all pretty darn good---the wind stunk and I sat all Saturday in a stand that had a 12" by maybe 20" chunk of plywood as the base so not much room for moving----wouldn't have traded it for anything and I didn't even raise my rifle to shoot.
