MINNESOTA’S OFFENSE by the numbers…

RUNS, 29th

HITS, 27th

2Bs, 23rd

3Bs, Tied for last (7 teams)

HRs, 30th

RBIs, 28th

TBs, 29th

BBs, 29th

SBs, 28th

OBP, 29th

SLG, 29th

AVG, 29th

Only one player (Kubel) is at .300, all the rest are below. Cuddyer is hitting .107 and is one of 4 starters (6 players overall) hitting in the 100s.

We have scored 24 runs this year (second to last). The White Sox have scored 62 (lead MLB).

What has to give here? Why aren't we playing small ball (running more, moving runners up, etc.). Pitching has been better of late, but if we keep losing by 1 or 2 runs, that will go a long way to diminish the confidence of our starters.

You have to have base runners to play small ball and Kubel isn't going to run much.

Let's not get too dejected or down here. Turning around 180 degrees from the Twins, how excited would you be as a Royals or Orioles fan right now? They are both 6-3. Does anyone here believe those are going to be your division winners, probably not.

It'll turn around I'm sure. Question is when. Would be far better to get started at home here against KC, and then carry that onto the road.

We are always slow starters (save last year), but you will never find me jumping off the bandwagon...I watch 100+ games even during losing seasons. I didn't post the numbers to be a Debbie-Downer, and I will be the last to say I know the answer, but I just wanted to know what you guys think we need to do to jump-start some O? I like shifting the order, and sometimes radically. Remember when Bartlett was here and he hit 8th (and had a poor average), then we bumped him to the #2 hole and he took off? That is something we might try with...? Valencia? Get him in the #2 spot for a game or two? His bat was better yesterday and some incentive like that for a young guy can go a long way. Hitting is contagious, and we need to catch the fever!

Why aren't we playing the small ball we used to? We aren't the speed based team we used to be. We were heading back in that direction with Nishi but...

I don't think our plan for more hit and run, base stealing, and bunting guys over rested solely on Nishioka's arrival. Gardy said he planned to get back to the "Twins" style of ball, and I hope to see evidence of that as we move forward. Span and Casilla have speed (granted, Casilla hasn't gotten on much), but they are not the only two guys that can move between the bases. I won't say this isn't the eventual plan as we have too small of a sample to look at thus far, but I hope we do get back to the small ball that made us competitive for so many years.

you just know guys like mauer, morneau, and young are going to turn it around. valencia is getting some good cuts too and I like the potential of hughes as long as gardy lets him play (please). kubel has been swinging decently already so we get these guys going things can turn around quickly.

But they wont. I love the twins as much as any Minnesotan, but I can aslo admit that this team just isnt that good. Twins finish 4th in their div.

You can blame this all on Gardy. Back in spring training I watched other teams and they played who they knew were going to be the starting roster and played them. Look at the Twins, who did they play in ST?? Bunch of single, double and triple A players, why play them if they are not going to be on the opening day roster. Get the guys at bats that will be there so they are ready for opening day.

Gardy knew how his starters play since pretty much all of them played last year for him except Nishi...... he tried to get a look at some prospects from the minors during spring training. Sounds like pretty good logic to me..... he understands the importance of the farm system in the long run for a team

But who knows, maybe the manager of the year doesn't know what he is doing.

I think he has a plan....don't burn the guys out in 20 spring training games....he nows who he has and what they are capable of so why take the chance...by the end of June they will be leading the division.

We're the best team in baseball at overcoming injuries during the regular season for a reason. Gardy wants to know what he can get from these guys - better to find out in spring training vs during the regular season. We already know what our starters bring to the table. I hate negative 'Gardy talk' - hands down one of the best managers in baseball.

Most of the guys only need about 20-30 AB's to get ready. No reason to risk injury by overplaying. It's nice to let the young guys get some AB's like Hughes so if/when injuries ocur (Nishi) guys can step up and be ready.

Cuddy with a nice game. Lets hope it's the start of a streak!

20 or 30 at bats to get ready....I think not.
