What does this deer score?

Recommended Posts

find a shed and let us know, but my numbers

g-1 3, g-2 12, g-3 11 g-4 5 24" mains, 20" mass, 21" inside

should be low 170's but when they're that spindly they appear longer tined than what they are, should be a booner this year.

Ya, really spindly tines. Looks like he needs some nutrients. Next year he might be magnificent.

Those G2's and G3's are stupid long!

G1's are nothing, and G4's are not impressive.

Overall score???

I am going to go with upper 160's tops. If he had mass, or some daggers for brow tines, then I would go to that 170-180 mark.

Seems like night time trail cam shots often don't do justice to a rack's mass. They all look spindly in that light.

Just judging by width, and tine length I'd guess he's easily in the low 170's and likely into the 180's! Big, big bodied deer too. Beautiful buck!

I totally agree. This coming fall he'll be magnificent!

This video was taken just days before the MN rifle season. My friend never got another glimps of this deer. FYI this was on public hunting land and I can only imagine the excitment of opening day knowing a buck like this had been spotted near your stand.

Awsome deer, in the booner area for sure. I agree with whoever said sometimes the camera takes away from the tines mass, it's clear he doesn't have a ton of mass but I doubt those tines would be as spindly if you had your hands around them.

One other thing that jumped out at me was that this very well could be a young deer, looking at his face/nose and it fairly short He also doesn't have much sag in his belly or sway to his back. It's impossible to age him for sure from video but something tells me he might have been 4.5 or even 3.5 years old last year and could be crazy big this year.

I thought around 160. OOrowe, looking back at your estimate I think I differ With you on your mass and spread. I don't think that deer averages 5" in circumference, I think 20" max on spread more like mid to high 19".

We are all making our best guess, I am usually wrong anyhow!

Out of curiousity, how are some of you guys coming up with less than 160", I would like to know where we differ on estimates of measurements, Thanks.

Mike

i re-read the thread...i think only one person guessed below 160.

he's not a "massy" deer (yet). potential maybe... but he's a shooter! i see 160+ but not boone. not anywhere in the video clip does he show me boone. maybe this year tho!

with all this snow, if we could just warm up; a quick spring green up and ample water supply should help out the racks!

Funny, my "Bertha" education is showing it's true colors, I don't think he averages 5" of mass either, I was thinking 4" of mass and 4x4 is definately not 20. No wonder the numbers didn't match what I thought was a 160" deer.
