The context of your post got such off topic and twisted response I thought I had read it wrong. But that seems to be the norm on many posts.

The deterioration of the landings and shorelines turns in to (911) the ice is gone humor & jabs.

75% of the perms and wheel houses have been pulled in my area for the exact reason you posted.

Big clearance trucks and porty fishers will have it made.

Being it doesn't concern your ability to continue fishing, I find your concerns for those like myself to be well appreciated.20" of ice does nobody any good if you cant pull on it,get off it, or have a house stranded, sinking, or froze in out there.

Got mine off at noon Monday, and not a minute to soon. Would not have got it off a couple hours later.

Was thinking bout taking the son out to Chisago today. Can we still get a truck onto the ice or is walking out the only real option? What bad is the slush once you are out, should I cancel my plans or fish a couple smaller private lakes I know about?

Sorry leech~~, I just find it funny whenever we get a weather anamoly at anytime of the year, people seem to jump to the worst possible conclusion when it comes to fishing. You are 100% correct; if you have a permy out there, you should be on top of the conditions of the lake it is on so as to remove it safely and not have to worry about letting it sink. This happens every year, though, and I think the accesses are going to heal up just fine. We may still have highs hovering in the low 30's after Thursday, but the cold nights will freeze up whatever road-salted and rutted mess there is at the access. It's all part of the fun!

2+ft of water on the landing at carsons bay last night pretty sure your are driving on some lake bottom to get to the ice.

Do you really think you are driving on lake bottom?

This is why people get worked up about these subjects.

McGurk said it well - it happens nearly every year, and when it does, people jump to the worst conclusions.

I am pretty sure that people can confirm for themselves if they are driving on the bottom along the shoreline since they can see the sandy bottom through the open water.

Its sad that some people have to be the tough guy out there and question what people actually see, someone could actually get the wrong impression and be over confident and make a tragic mistake.

This is nothing to mess with. Yes, there is tons of ice out there. Yes, some landings have issues because that is where all the salt, sand, etc piles up from folks driving on and off and they are prone to run off because many have a slope near them. It is not far-fetched at all that there could be open water there now after only a couple days.

The sun has a tremendous amount of power already. Last week when it was 5 degrees out there was water steaming on my driveway. Go figure. MNDOT cant get salt to work under 10 degrees, but the sun can melt it at 5.

Once you get away from shore and we get some cooler weather things should be fine. Avoid the spots prone to issues. Snowmobiles were falling through on Tonka, granted I am sure there were in channels.

For the first time in my life, that i can remember anyway, I truly wish it would cool down to below freezing. There's only a handful of weeks left for me to pull something that isn't a panfish up from the ice (ok, so not entirely accurate but you get the point).

Tried to get onto the lake by my place last night... turned into a game of "get A's ATV unstuck" and "go inside and play guitar cuz you ain't fishin tonight."

blah.

If i had a perm I woulda pulled it off sunday... noticed the landing at centerville had some standing water on it.

I have been fishing White Bear Lake every eve this week so far.....landing has not been to bad suprisingly. The lake has anywhere from 3-12"s of standing water on it. close to 20"s of ice. Will be driving the F150 out again tonite...and if I see any MAJOR changes..I will report. Stay safe...and enjoy this late ice bite!

This isn't just any old warm up rivers are starting to become open and when theres a foot of water on the ice and I can canoe I think thats starting to become a little skechy. and with highs in the 50's tommorow and highs above freezing till the end of the 7 day forecast who knows?

any one seeing swirling black holes yet?

Last night for kicks I drove from wyzata bay all the way across to the deephaven landing on carsons. deephaven beach landing was in really bad shape but it only because of all the traffic on and off. There is not one place were the shoreline has pulled away other then hate landing.

I did see that the DNR is suggesting no more driving.

The ice is already crystallized on the Red River and the tributaries here in the Central Region of the Red River Basin.

Ice depth varies dramatically and quickly in a relatively short distance.

So the recent thaw has made a rapid effect on the ice conditions. Caution in days ahead should be first and foremost and not take any chances if any concerns are evident.

The ice conditions are rapidly changing.

was out last night driving across Blue Lake in Isanti county and the landing is gettnig sketchy and without a good freeze it might not make it another couple days.....as for the lake no snow on the lake just about 2 inches or so of slushy snow/soft ice mix and then the ice seemed fine itself....the old roads were a mess as they had standing water in between the banks that were left.....oh and fishing was poor

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
