Webb for real or a flash in the Pan?

So is Webb a flash in the pan or for real? All I know is that last nights game was fun to watch, especially those moves Webb put on the defensive linemen on his rushing touchdown.

If #4 has a decent bone left in his body, he will sit out next week and we can find out more about Webb...doubtful, though, as beating Detroit in his "swan song" is, I am sure, at the forefront of Favre's thinking.

As for Webb, I will say this...he showed more poise in the pocket last night than Favre or Jackson have all year, no "happy feet" syndrome, and he delivered laser after laser. It's like he grew up before our very eyes. I want to see more before I crown him the new QB of MN's future, but I was very impressed with what I saw last night from a young QB...on the road...against a good team with plenty to play for.

Farrrrrrrrrrrrrr too early to tell. He doesn't have enough practice/game snaps in his pocket to be able to even begin to gauge his potential, and defenses haven't seen enough of him to really gameplan for him.

He showed great touch, decent accuracy on short/intermediate throws and great mobility. He also showed some trouble making presnap reads and sliding protection to pick up blitzes, and missed some wide open guys when he was pressured.

Last night was very encouraging, but I think at this point MN will still look to either draft a franchise QB or sign a quality veteran to keep them competitive while Webb develops.

i dont think webb is going anywhere soon. jackson is gone in my opinion. there is not one person on this thread that can predict what webb's full abilities are at this time. we will see in the draft and in the trading that will go on what the coaches think of webb. he had good poise and played a good game last night. the offensive line did a better job last night and he has the ability to run when needed and is quick. probably the best athlete over all on the team. good luck.

I say give the guy a shot. He's got the arm and he's got the legs. There's a couple mental aspects of his game that can be easily fixed but overall I think he has what it takes. Make him the #1 guy for next year and focus on other needs in the draft.

Tom Brady would beg to differ. As would Aaron Rodgers, Matt Cassell, Philip Rivers, Matt Schaub...you get the point.

Those are four of the top NFL QBs (plus Schaub who is very solid), all of whom sat for at least one year (most of them for at least two years) before becoming the man. Of course there are some who can learn on the job and turn out great, but there are also plenty who sit, learn, and then excel.

We have nothing to lose by giving Webb a good chance to see what he has. he has looked fairly good so far but one cannot tell after the little he has played.

I would love to see him start as he is very young and could be the future QB for years for the Vikings.

I do not want to see another 2-3 year QB come to Minnesota and then go and start all over again.

I wouldn't name him a starter for next year, but I definitely would have him as a top competitor for the job come training camp. I agree though we need a franchise QB and not a rental arm.

well webb did sit for 3/4 of the year. then got a sniff. then a little more time and finally a start or two. I think next game will be big. gives him some more experience and proves he has potential i hope.

I was REALLY pulling for him to eke out 5 more passing yards. Then he could say he has as many 200 yard passing games as TJack.

IMO, he needs more time if the Vikes plan on being a legitimate play-off contender next year. He's shown alot of promise...no need to push him to the wolves too early.

I would be in favor of bringing in Orton or Palmer for a year or two...drafting a high round QB in this years draft and let it play out from there.

+1. We won last night because of our defense, not the QB, no matter who was in there. I think trading for a current pro and drafting a future star is our best bet, keep Webb around- we need 3 QBs and it doesn't hurt to have someone with his athletic ability, but he is NOT a starting QB in the NFL

Since Favre will be coming back next year, hopefully Webb will get alot of mop up duty (ala T-Junk last year) to garner some experience to take over the starting role in 2012. That will allow the vikes an extra year to sign/draft extra help on offense.

He would make a reciever, thats about all I can see coming from him. Everyone makes it seem like he had a hostorical game. I believe we need to go for a young QB and trade AP and start rebuilding. Vikes are getting old and wont be good for a couple years anyhow.Still fun to watch though. Nothing better than watching my favorite team DA BEARS sneak into the playoffs when no one even gave them a chance. GO BEARS !!!!!

I would be willing to bet the Chargers wish they had kept Brees and drafted a diff position/player instead of drafting Rivers. Has Rivers won a playoff game? I am too lazy to look

I say we find a old QB like in the past, have an open competition for the starting job. If Web wins the job, then we build around him. Draft OL, and CB with your early round picks. We have enough talent on this team, we just need to fill the big holes that werent addressed last offseason. Then I would think any QB would be able to look good on this team. We have huge talent on our offense! We just need to give the QB some time to get the ball out there, and this would be a dangerous team.

I have no problem with having another QB and seeing whom is the best unless he is in his last years. We have had enough of that for a LONG TIME TO COME.

Trading AP would be about the dumbest move this team could do hands down. AP is the reason this team could win any giving Sunday. Trading the leagues best RB would do nothing for this franchise except set us back many years.

As for Webb it is what it is, I don't think anyone is trying to say he played a historical game ( even though he really did on Tuesday Night Football lol). He came in with half a game of experience and probably doesn't even know half of the playbook.

He looked rough for awhile but he settled in and made some nice plays. He stayed poised in a rough environment, he looked past his 1st read, he made some key throws and he also made some key runs to move the chains and also run the clock. Great game by him, he did more then ANYONE thought he'd do.

I don't think he's ready to be a franchise QB but he did earn the right to be looked at. I'm glad he came out and had a pretty good game because that helped the team realize we don't need Junkson, Webb is better then Junkson after a game and a half. I'd rather have Webb as our back up/utility player then Junkson anyday.

I'd take palmer I'll pass on Orton hears a who. I also like Rivers more then Brees, I can't stand the Saints and their miracle stories makes me want to vomit.

I don't want to discount the fact that the kid played well in a high pressure situation-something Jackson was NEVER able to do. But, it is very early in the game to call him either a future star or a flash in the pan. Keep him around and let him develop, but I don't think he will look nearly as good once the league gets some film on him. He still has a lot to learn and a lot of growing pains to go through. This team has many needs including offensive line and safety help. You could legitimately say that they need both safeties and 3 offensive linemen. It is going to take some shrewd moves and getting rid of some big salaries (McKinney, Berrian, Madieu Williams) to get some players who actually produce.
