Sick in November NO!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I am on my third cold in 7 or 8 weeks. Unbelievable.

I have heard great things about "Airborne". It's basically a Vitamin C/Zinc, etc. booster. Comes in a small tablet form and you pop it in a small glass of water and watch it dissolve. Actually tastes pretty good.

I know what I'm buying on my way home from work!

I felt a cold coming on late last week and didn't think much of it. Monday morning rolled around and I was starting to feel under the weather. I loaded up on 3 different types of tea, airborne, echinacea, & vitamin c and I am back to feeling good. Being sick on deer opener is NOT an option.

I think your body can only process so much vitamin c, after enough its just a waste. Mixing with vodka can never hurt. I also believe staying away from fast food joints and shopping places. If you have young children like me youre out of luck. Might as well live in a petry dish full of germs.

Regular sleep, plenty of fluids daily (especially water), plenty of exercise daily, and wash hands regularly to reduce the potential for contracting the virus in the first place is your best defense.

Once you're experiencing symptoms all the vitamins C, herbal, or otherwise remedies are pretty much useless toward fighting the virus. In fact, there is no known treatment or remedy for the common cold. The average lifespan of the virus in our bodies is from 7 to 10 days but symptoms may not appear until day 3, 4, 5, possibly not at all or very slightly depending on your state of health (see my opening statement).

The only thing we can do is treat the symptoms but sometimes I believe we go over-board and cause other problems that can prolong the discomfort. For example, if you're coughing and you're able to cough up fluids from your lungs I don't believe it's a good idea to use cough syrups because they suppress your body's natural impulse to get rid of the junk in your lungs and this can lead to other complications. If the coughing is interferring with sleep, then maybe.

I know...we all believe that by taking extra vitamin c or other home remedies we've shortened the duration of the infection. The truth is that it lived out its life as it would otherwise have done but you just didn't experience the symptoms until later in its progression. If you've already got symptoms from the cold, there isn't much you can do about this one but increasing your fluid intake and getting plenty of rest could help prevent you from catching another virus before this one dies.

I just hate the thought of coughing in the tree stand and spooking a buck of a lifetime away. A good friend and hunting buddy was a trooper last year on opening weekend, only to find out on Tuesday that he had H1N1. Got back in the stand on Wednesday and dropped a nice 8 point.

I missed opening day of 2003, with a really bad cold. Sunday I went out in the drizzle and wind for most of the day. Sad to say, towards the end of the day I was thinking to myself I wouldn't even shoot if I saw a deer because I didn't have it in me to gut it and get it out of the woods. Since then I am very careful of other peoples germs and getting lots of rest leading up to opening weekend.
