Vikings players said Monday that coach Brad Childress told them that Moss "is no longer with us."

Childress makes it sound like Moss died. I wonder when Ziggy will come out and tell us "Childress is no longer with us". That will be a good day... grin

All I can say is wow....Give up a 3rd rounder for 3 weeks of basically nothing? Now THATS a smart move on the Vikings part. I HATE to say it, but this team is falling apart faster than.....Ok not quite as fast as Dallas but it is close! Will we be looking UP at the Lions at the end of the year?

Unfortunately, Moss needed this kind of wake-up call when he was 23, not 33. Not that this will do anything to adjust his attitude. He still seems to play only when he wants to play.

And some team will give him another chance and some more coin to keep doing what he does.

I think this is just the exclamation point on the sentence including all the mistakes this franchise has made lately. You knew he was going to be a headache when you traded for him, just like you knew there would be a headache with Favre... either learn how to deal with it or start over....

I guess we are starting over. Childress may have an idea of how to coach, but he can't seem to get this group motivated enough to win a meaningful football game, so I think he has to go as well.

To be honest, it's one of the things I like about the NFL. You can have a charmed season like last year where everything goes right for you (until the NO game that is). And then follow it up with almost the same group of guys, and we get this as an encore.

This Moss thing is almost funny to me, to see what a comical train wreck our team has become. Glad we wasted that 3rd pick then. We knew what type of player we were getting. Someone that can stretch the field (if QB had ANY protection) and someone that always draws a safety to help defend. Even if he doesn't catch a ball all game he's still a game changer. Vikings...Whatever!

Anyone else read the article by Tom Powers in the Pioneer Press about wanting Childress fired? He actually brought up some good points....

Quote:
Even with the upcoming soft schedule, the season appears lost. It's as if the team needs some sort of shock treatment, some sort of jolt. Nothing would apply a better kick in the pants to this slouching group than a change at the top. Whether Childress deserves to get canned is irrelevant. As Clint Eastwood said: "Deserves'' got nothing to do with it. Consider it a tactical move designed to get the team's attention.

There's no need for anything dramatic. Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier could take over. The players hear a different voice. And maybe something good comes out of it. What do they have to lose?

Quote:
His counterpart, Childress, apparently will live to fight another day. But the clock has to be ticking down on him, doesn't it? With so much at stake, his team can't afford to have an off year.

"All these defeats are bitter pills to swallow," he said.

I just don't know how many more he's going to be allowed to swallow.

Waiver wire, homeboy.

ZERO chance he signs with New England. That would require every other team in the NFL passing on him, and I can't see that happening. Also, Belichek jettisoned Moss for a reason - I don't think that he's exactly clamoring to have him back.

It be funny, though, if New England ended up trading Randy Moss for a 3rd round pick + Randy Moss.

It sounds like the front office had no idea Childress was waiving Moss.

If that's true Childress is one very emotionally immature person.

For him to just give in effect give away our 3rd round pick like that and dump Moss for NO VALUE is not football smart in the least.

Looks more like a battle of wills bewteen two kindergartners and if true it would look like both of the emotionaly immature got their wish but are very likely to lose in the long run!!!

Moss is disappointing but, if true Chilly went ahead without Wilf's knowledge.

Chilly is now no more than a figurehead leading a Train Wreck.

Here is more out of Boston:

Moss not officially released...yet

by Greg A. Bedard November 1, 2010 05:06 PM

Foxborough - Receiver Randy Moss has not yet been released from the Minnesota Vikings, according to various reports.

Fox Sports' Jay Glazer said Vikings coach Brad Childress informed him that Moss hasn't been told personally of his release, and the transaction had yet to be submitted to the league. But Childress informed Vikings players in a meeting today.

And according to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network, there are some within the Vikings organization not on board with Childress' decision to release Moss.

This could get interesting.

The personnel power structure of the Vikings is murky. It is believed that Childress, vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman, and Rob Brzezinski, vice president of football operations, all have some say in personnel decisions. It has been called a “Triangle of Authority” in the past, although it’s doubtful that term has ever been used in the Vikings’ offices. But all three report directly to owner Zygi Wilf.

Last season’s run to the NFC Championship game with Childress’ hand-picked quarterback, Brett Favre, likely gave Childress more personnel clout.

But with the Vikings at 2-5 and Favre struggling, Childress may have been marginalized in some respect. In the middle of a season, though, that's a bit hard to believe. Wilf and Childress are tight, and it's difficult to imagine Childress telling the team Moss was gone without having the full support of the owner.

According to Glazer, Childress told the team Moss “is not the type of guy we need around here.” One rumor was that Childress may have thought Moss was trying to get Childress fired.

Vikings players were “strongly, strongly opposed” to Moss’ release, according to Glazer.

Since Moss was not on the NFL’s transaction wire today, the earliest he can officially be on the market is 4 p.m. Tuesday.

It's also grounds for immediate dismissal....to literally just throw away a 3rd round draft pick is irresposible and would HAVE to come with the front office's approval.

What a mess...this team is really going to need that 3rd round pick.
