The next coach of the MN Gophers football team will be.....

Coach, I think that this is wrong. Brewster was and still is a strong recruiter. He got some pretty good guys to come here but was never able to develop them into better players once they arrived. That was his biggest problem. At Texas he was selling Mack Brown and the program.....

In my opinion.... he wasn't a good recruiter at Texas.... TEXAS is a good recruiter. It isn't hard to convince a kid to go to Texas. A great program, no mention of issues or allegations... tons of NFL players have come from there. I'm sick of hearing how Brewster was such a good recruiter at Texas.... I think a lot of us could recruit for Texas!!!

As far as him recruiting so well, but not being able to develop..... Last I checked... if you look at any good program in any of the major conferences they have FRESHMAN that are already really good players, playing in big spots and making big plays..... if he was such a good recruiter, we would have some of those guys. Give me a guy who can recruit a kid to a directional school like South East Lousianna State over a guy who convince a blue chipper to go to Texas....

I think Tice has his degree but I don't think he has his masters...could be wrong though. Either way, there are much better candidates than Tice out there.

Better candidates that would want the job though? While the Goph's are a Big-10 team, unless you're talking about Ohio State, Penn State or Michigan that doesn't have much luster. Plus we're a perennial doormat.

Someone has has a huge job in front of them if they want to turn the culture of our program around.

How about Mike Shula?

Since you love 'Bama so much.... how about a distance relative of Bear Bryant!! grin

Harbaugh is not leaving Stanford for MN... he really fits the culture there and I can't seem a Pac 10 coach leaving California to try and recruit kids to MN. If Harbaugh leaves it will be for a big time program like Michigan, LSU etc...

I don't think the guy from Temple will leave just yet. I've heard he really wants to take over Penn State when Joe Pa is done and taking over a mess in MN, won't help him if he can't turn it around right away.

I don't know who it will be, but it sure is sad to see the hottest discussion about college football in the first week of October is who the next coach is gonna be??? Sure shows you how bad it has gotten!

Now you're thinking! I'd even take a relative of Gene Stallings!

I still think that Mike Shula was not that bad of a coach and maybe should have been given a little bit more time in Alabama.

There is no greater opportunity for a young, ambitious, talented head coach in the nation than the U of M. The line of candidates would be long and I guarantee some are already updating their resumes. It's the perfect low risk...high reward job.

Rebuilding a program is easy compared to keeping a premier football school on top...too many examples to name.

I don't agree with you assessment zepman, but I sure hope you are right. For some reason we missed out on Peterson and Patterson last time and I don't believe they weren't offered it..... I think they just like their current situations better... time will tell

A big story about Brewster in a sex scandal with his secretary is about to break, hopefully that will get him fired. He is a terrible coach and has set the program back about 10 yrs. Really makes you miss Mason.

So is this wishful thinking or do you actually have some info we don't know? Care to elaborate?

Gophers hanging around 14-9 at halftime against Wisconsin.

This is about what I expected--Brwester's job is on the line, so he will be able to keep it close, and go on living in his alternate reality where the Gophers are "almost" 5-0.

Meanwhile, in the real world, Brewster's fundamental lack of competence will ensure that Paul Bunyan's Axe stays in Madison for another year.

I normally never take the side of a cry baby coach whining about the team running up the score, but c'mon, going for 2 at that point in the game? Scoring TD's is one thing, but 2 point conversions are really only for emergency purposes. I guess he just wanted to give brewster a final send off with a slap in the face and a kick in the butt grin

Why would you say that 2 point conversions are "only for emergency purposes"? Scoring is scoring no matter how you do it. Wisconsin had every right to score in whatever way they can, thats the goal in football.

If Brewster didn't like it then his team should have stopped them instead of acting like a crybaby. You have to run up scores in sports that are based on rankings. If your team is undefeated but wins each game by less than a TD and the next team wins each of its games by 3 TDs or more, guess who is going to be ranked #1?

Talked to an "Insider" today - take it for what it is - supposedly Trestman is the top name floating around.

I hope to God that's not the case. We need a proven D1 college coach not a CFL coach with Minnesota roots. Why do we always feel the need to have someone with local ties coming here? I think we get afraid that if they actually accomplish something here they'll want to leave if they aren't from MN. How about dealing with that if/when the time comes? That said I do like the Dungy idea but that just isn't going to happen. Here's an idea....wait until the season is over, see who's on the market and PAY UP FOR SOME REAL TALENT. Maturi has to go before Brewster so someone competent is in place to hire the next football coach. I don't know why I follow or care about this program. It just makes me sick.

Would a new coach really be that big of a change in the sence of program stability? With Brewster that has been ZERO stability. Can't keep coordinators from year to year. The only stability the Gophs have had is a smooth talking salesman that can sell in charge! Why not make a change. He can't win and can't recruit. Dump him...

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
