SkunkedAgain
Observations from a Packer fan (forced by my wife to be nice to her Vikings):- Both defenses played pretty outstanding. Yes Favre missed a few throws, but most of the time it was a defender making a great play versus a blown opportunity/dropped pass. There should be no shame for either team watching game film today.- Bernard Berrian was never great with the Bears, and he has never shown the aptitude to be much more than a #2/#3 receiver on a good team. He was absent last year, absent last night, and will likely be absent the rest of the season.- Favre was out of synch, but that will come back. It certainly showed that he missed Rice. The defense was able to shut down the other receivers without having a stud like Rice in the game.- Shiancoe made one of the best catches I've seen in a while for that TD. That was after Favre made an incredibly difficult throw to Shiancoe the play before to get them into position. The biggest problem was that the Saints adjusted at halftime, putting Porter on Visanthe and nobody else from the Vikings stepped up.- Adrian Peterson was utilized properly in the first half, and gained hard yards off of some nifty runs. I don't know why Bevell moved away from the run in the second half when the game was never more than a TD out of reach. The Vikings were starting to wear down the Saints defense, but they switched to the pass and that was the Vikings doom.- I agree with Jim Souhan's article this morning. Whatever finger injury that McKinney sustained better have been close to life-threatening, because he was sorely needed. Loadholt and Cook are not going to keep The Brent upright all season. All in all, I thought that the Vikings did well against the Super Bowl champs. I don't think that there is too much to worry about.
96trigger
I thought the game went better than expected. The vikes looked just like they did last year against clevelend. Slow and out of sync. Only difference between last nights game and the Clevelend game is where the check mark went in the Win/loss column. I am fine with how we played. I actually thought it might have been a lot worse. Favre needs to find a reciever, don't care if its Harvin, Camarillo, Lewis, or Berrian, he needs to get comfortable with someone, soon. I think last night all the Vikes were trying to do was get favre out of there in one piece. I was dissappointed in the defense. Granted, we only gave up 14 points, it should have been 20. I didn't see alot of pressure up front. I know that I may take heat for this, but I have never been impressed with Leslie Frazer. Our defense appears to be so unaggressive its boring to watch, but, the stats don't lie, somehow they get the job done, so I shouldn't complain. FISHINGURU
The offense was a total wreck, but if the D gets the ball to Favre with 2 minutes left....IMO they win. The guy seems to have a record of that. Good call, I was also waiting for that moment and Favre was too, you could tell he was looking for one last chance to put that game away. The BOO DAT nation would of been in shambles if the Vikes would of came to town and stole one from them.
fishersofmen
Would have been a good game to sneak away with. Defense did a good job considering the patchwork in the secondary, would have been nice to see more pressure on Breese though. The offense will find itself and the Silver Fox will make a star of one of these recievers just like he did last year with Rice.
Jim Uran
Well the crow tastes pretty bad guys!!!! SkunkedAgain you summed it up very well. I don't know why they got away from the run.. that was their doom. IMO that's what made them look so good in the second quarter, they built up the run and started gunning it. After they gave up on the run it was shut down time. After that first drive I was sweatin bullets... But then the Vikes D start making some plays. Gotta hand it to the Saints, they are a darn good team. Next week can't come soon enough.
broodwich
Were you happy when the Queens SQUEAKED by the 49ers and Ravens at the last second last year? Those were two weak teams and you BARELY won at home.........yet they swept the packers and won the division.....
curtistodd
God has tried to kill New Orleans with hurricanes, oil, and vikings, yet they are still there. Any playing very fast and very well. I look forward to seeing what happens next. The vikings will have a tough time making the playoffs this year. And yes. I blame Chili. Our roster could be way better, but Chili is a bonehead. BTW, Favre missed his receivers by mere inches on 4 different 3rd down conversion tries....this will get better. Losing 14-9 to the defending superbowl champs on the road is no where near an embarrassing loss. I thought it would be 42-10 with our bad secondary. In closing, it is much better to be a kool-aid drinking vikes nut than a dumbdumb Northdakotan who hates the vikes for no reason, and roots for the Cowboys, Pats, or whatever flavor of the month bandwagon team happens to be winning. Born2Fish
I think the Vikings will make the playoffs pretty easily. There are some good teams on our schedule, but I think once Favre gets into his rhythm with these receivers, things will start turning around in the passing game. Peterson would of had over 100 yards had they kept feeding him the ball. But like most have said, for some odd reason they stopped doing so in the second half. Good game by both teams. I too am eating crow thinking the vikings would win by 7. But I would rather be eating crow than jumping the ship because of one loss. SKOL VIKINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! james_walleye
The disappointing thing about that game is that the saints held that game in front of us and said take it and we just couldnt do it. I agree, Favre and the passing game will settle in. I thought the D played well. As other people have stated, im confused as to where AP went in the 2nd half. Seemed to be a poor job of keeping the saints offbalance. I think they knew what was coming as soon as we lined up. They have to find a way to get to 4-4 or 5-3 with this tough schedule and the 2nd half should get a bit easier.
fishin58
Where AP went?? hmm could it be not the playcalling of Bevell or Chili but the audibles of your savior?? How many times did brent check out of run to pass? 3 times for sure, so that is at least 3 more runs for AP, which would have equled more 2nd and 6's and maybe more opp for your savior to throw shorter passes. That is all!!
MuleShack
I thought the funniest part of the whole game was in the third quarter they were doing a quick video highlight summary of the game to that point and in the middle of it they showed chilly with a bewildered look on his face. Kinda summed up the game for me.

Kinda summed up the game for me. Chilly in the headlights. If the Vikes puss out and blow it, will the DNR do a lotto on a Chilly tag? Highest bidder? Call it state mandated QVM. Could fund a new stadium. But that stadium would be for the GOPHERS, since the Vikes are heading west, young man. And who wants to spend a dime on your stoopid Gophers? South Dakota indeed. Oh wait. Sorry. I shouldn't have butted in on the Sacred Vikings Thread, being an unbeliever from Wisconsin. No doubt you'll pay the Pack back on a different thread as soon as the Pack does the cockroach. Nate McVey
Does everybody REALLY think Brent will have as good of a year as he did last year? Put down the purple koolaid and open your eyes................he cost you a super bowl appearance last year and is going to cost you a playoff spot this year..............mark my words, VIkings DO NOT make the playoffs this year, with or without Brent.............. Nate, my man. If Bret is at the helm, the KoolAid drinkers have a better chance of a Purple Trophy by far than they do if Favre isn't on the field. Well, they DO have their other problems, too. I see the Vikings at 10-6 or 11-5 hoping for a Wild Card. I put the Pack at 11-5 or 12-4 and taking the division outright or based on beating the Vikings by tie breakers. Bears at 7-9 and the Lions win 3 this year. Without Brett, all bets are off. Go Joe Webb
FISHINGURU
YAAAAAAAAAAAWN, every year Brett is gonna suck and every year he's gonna get hurt, same people are saying the same exact things they did at this time last year with our slow start. Only difference is this year we started on the road against the Aints instead of the easy games we started with last season.

That is all!! Imagine this timing...who could have predicted you would show up after the vikings scored 9 points. The only surprising thing is you didnt try telling us that the vikings would have won the game with junkson at QB. You have to be on left field to blame AP's lack of carries on Favre rather than the playcallers. So instead of 3 carries, he has 6, in a game in which he should have touched it at least 12-15 times in the 2nd half after the way the 2nd quarter went. Born2Fish
And that second half Packers team sure looked like CARP against Vick too! 3 carries because of audibles? Wow.
