If he was using a .22 like the others, then I would have no worries about shooting a gator in the boat....especially if it was a 12 footer that was still kicking on the bottom of my boat. shocked

A pea sized hole leaking water would be the last thing I'd be worrying about. smile

Maybe they like the extra distance the rifle gives them, it would be safer sticking the rifle barrel down to the gaters head than a handgun.

That does make sense. A little extra distance is good.

I think why they do that is because handguns are illegal to take game in a wma in Louisiana though.

I would have no problem slapping one of those on the head with my 357 though. I bet if it was legal to use handguns that would be choice cause it takes up less room and would be quicker on the draw. Even a .22 handgun would be better in a boat.

The Guy who give his dog little Debbie's uses a 12ga so I don't think its a huge deal to put a little bigger hole in them.

The guy with the cake eating dog is the one that could use a pistol. That looks like a tough job hunting by himself.

Holding a line that has a 10ft gator on the end of it with one hand and shooting a rifle or shotgun with the other hand just doesn't look all that safe to me! eek

Yeah, it's definitely something different and I've been DVR'ing it every week. When those gators are up on the bank and they get out of the boat to chase them down it'll make the hair on the back of your neck stand up a little bit!

grinlol...he got bit by a small gator on 3-4 of his fingers and I thought he was gonna have a baby? Screaming like all get out for his daddy! I bet them swamp girls look at him a little differently now!

It probably hurt, I have no doubt, but no worse then getting bit by a big pike or muskie? I seen my brother get bit on 4 of his fingers by about a 10 pound pike and he didn't scream? He swore some and let out a couple of "Ow, ow's" when I was taking apart the pikes head with a pair of pliers, but he didn't scream bloody murder?

Same with my son, about an 8 pounder latched onto his hand when he let his gaurd down and he didn't scream? Grimaced while I took the pikes head apart, they just won't let go.

When I was a kid, I seen a friends dad reach into an ice hole on Mille Lac and haul out a huge 20 pound pike that broke off at the top of the hole, with his bare hand...again, some "ow, ow's" but no screaming.

In all three instances, there was lots of blood though, lots of it!

Those gator hunters are something else! I wouldn't do some of the chit they do, thats for sure and I would make sure the gun/s was loaded at all times. I would also have a loaded side arm and a good sharp knife on my belt!

We used to trap and sell snapping turtles years ago and them things are mucho stinky.... but I bet a boat load of gators in the hot sun would have most people splashing the hash!

It would be an experience to do that no doubt....it would be hard to get excited about a 5 pound walleye after catching something like that!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
