LOL- I need to fish harder and text less.. but I was excited.. I got to touch my #2 PB for minnesota.. My largest I caught on Leech lake about 17 years ago.. and it was 7lb 2oz on my scale, no clue how accurate it was, but it measured 23 3/8".. My fish today was quite a bit shorter, and to be honest, was not even my longest fish of the week.. but this one measured only 21" but was the fattest, thickest tailed fish I have ever touched in my life.. and on 2 different dig scales went 6lbs 13 oz..

In some pads, caught on a punch skirt made by our own Riv Rat316.. and had a new prototype Mr.Twister Craw as a trailer..

Heck of a fish right there Deitz!! The big fish must be biting this week my friend caught a hog monday night, and I cant find the time to get out. How long have you been using those punch skirts, do you think you get more bites with them over a jig or texas rig at times.

I love you can see how much genuine happiness is in your smile big D, that had to have been a blast!!!

Its the first fish I have netted that was not in a tournament. When I first saw it, I thought it was my biggest MN fish of all time, I had to weigh it 3 times on 2 different scales, and still did not believe my eyes. I thought for sure it was over 7. Granted 6lbs 13 is darn close.. But this fish was old and thick.. and had to bust off about 3 pad stems and ran around the boat 3 times like Ike to try to get her not to jump.. I dont often get fired up about big fish. but I was a basket case!

I can't imagine what that fish will look like when it puts it's fall feed bag on, that thing is obese!

I cant imagine that fish weighing a ounce more.. I cant count the number of fish I have caught at 21" but none have weighed over 6, let alone dang near 7. Look at its tail, I have spent the last hour looking at my big fish picts, and that tail is twice anything I have ever caught before.. I almost wish I would have got a tail measurement to get a replica.. and I still might.

My dad was made even better by 2 other 5+ lb fish and 4 other 4+ lb fish..

Just started using them this year.. But the jury is no longer out. I love jigs, dont get me wrong. I will always be a jig guy. But the punch skirt/texas rig/slash whatever you call it.. comes through the really heavy stuff way better.. and I mean WAY BETTER... I will never hang up my jigs.. but after today, I may have a "punch skirt" rod rigged and ready at all times..Today I had 3 rigged and ready depending on conditions.

Deitz, I've been messing around with punch skirts this year too. You're right, they come through slop wayyy better than a jig and I feel I get just as many bites.

Just curious... what kind of hook are you using with them? EWG? Straight shank? My hookup percentage is lousy with this rig.

P.S. awesome fish!

Impressive D! That tail looks powerful to say the least!

I have been using the punch skirts a lot too. Need to get more as the few that I had didn't last long. They are a great way to spice up a craw or whatever you are flippin. I typically use a straight shank on mine. Gammy has a new one comin out that I hope has a closed eye on it.
