Sunglasses...best for fishing?

Luck e 1

Question

Obviously polarized is the best...but which brand is best?

Oakley? Are they really good or is it just a name?

Costa Del Mar? Their HSOforum is pretty convincing that their polarized glasses are superior.

Natives? What I currently wear...pretty good.

I have talked to guys who swear it doesn't matter...polarized glasses are all the same.

Is this true?

One other thing to note, if you have vision insurance check with them to see if they will cover sunglasses even if you do not wear prescription glasses. I do need to wear glasses and my insurance covered all but $95 dollars of my current pair of scripted sunglass lenses and frame.

There are usually a few diferent pairs of sunglasses wherever you get your eyes checked and they are usually priced below what your insurance already covers.

I've had my Costa's for about 5 years now and it's definitly the best money I ever spent on glasses. Especially out on the ice. You can always tell on Monday who wears "cheapies" and who wears a good quality pair of shades, just look for the "racoon eyes" and you'll know! You might look stupid but at least you'll know you did the best you could to protect your eyes out on the water...you only get one pair of eyes, how much are they worth to protect?

I agree that the most important thing is to find a pair that not only blocks the sun but also fits good and looks good. That being said the last pair I bought and I am on my second pair is Bolle Recoils. I can't complain about them. I am by no means easy on my sunglasses but they hold up and don't scratch very much. A good pair of sunglasses when taken care of can be one of the best investments to make- annoying when you lose or break them but when you pay $100 or more and you make a mistake with them the next pair you tend to take alot better care of.....at least I have and they now last me over 2 years....Good Luck on your search

until they make floating lose-proof, smash-proof, and unscratchable sunglasses, I won't break the $25 mark.

I finished my looking cool, name brand days back in high school.

I've had my Costas for two years now - longer than I've had any pair by by 1.5 years. I know I keep better care of them and keep track of them because of the price tag. I'm glad I bought cheapies in high school though.

Luxury once tasted becomes a necessity... smile I have Maui Jim's now and wow, what a difference. My bro has a cheaper pair, but still "good" ones, and he has three lense colors that come with it, so might be hwat others above mentioned. But both are head and shoulders better than the cheapys which I used for years, and happily then. I will never go back...

I got a pair of the eliminators and a pair of the changable lens types. Nice price to start + 25% new customer bonus. I still might go get a pair of Harpoons in dark amber as the fit was perfect. I looked everywhere in the south metro before ordering these.

I guess sunglasses are kind of a weak spot for me so I got a lot of them.

When I could still find them in the store I really liked polarized Bolle with a vermilion tint. In the snow there is nothing like them, it's something you got to see to believe. On the water they are pretty much amazing. I guess you might say that they don't make it very dark but they take enough of the sun away that I am comfortable.

Since I finally ruined my last pair of Bolles' I have gone through a few pairs of other stuff, I have a couple pairs of Spy's and a pair of Oakleys. The Spy's are cool but they are not so good for fishing. So far I have to say the Oakleys are amazing.

The thing about the Oakleys for me is that I can get any kind of replacement lenses I want for them. That is always what happens to me is that the lenses get scratched and they are unusable so that is what has me sold on Oakleys (plus getting them second hand from a freind for 1/4 the original price helps too). Right now I got a pair of VR28 black iridium polarized lenses in and they are fantastic. They are very similar to the vermilion ones in the bolles' but I think they give even better definition. I can't wait to use them in the snow.

I too have a variety of pairs. I have a pair of Wave Killers from Costa that have green mirror glass that I like on cloudy days, a pair of fire iridium lenses on oakley frames that I like on sunny days, and a free pair of Wiley X shades with blue lenses coming in the mail any day now.
