Craziest Thing You Seen On The 4th On The Water!!!

We were out on Island Lake by Northome watching private party fireworks. There was no wind so we were just drifting (with lights on of course). It was dark out already to where you could not make out too much shoreline definition. Anyhow, we see this boat coming towards us from a ways away. Based on his lights he was going to come in front of me easily enough. Well when he gets a couple hundred yards away he is coming straight at us on full plane - way too fast for the light conditions. As he gets closer I start yelling to no avail. He comes within 10 yards of the back of my boat and never saw me until then. I looked into his eyes and they were way glazed over. He was an accident waiting to happen and he darn near made us that accident. Way to close of a call.

If that was me I probably would have followed him to where he was going and slap the snot outta him!!! I can't believe some people's actions/behavior on the water (or roads for that matter) when other peoples lives are at stake...

Just one very inconsiderate cabin with a PWC and ski boat out there. Took a few people yelling at them to get them to behave a little better. They finally got the message when their pontoon's battery died and our neighbor wouldn't give them a tow back in until they agreed to boat a little more respectfully.

Only a few tubers with no regard for others on the lake (not watching where they were going). Apparently this guy thought he had eyes in the back of his head since he figured there was no reason to face forward while aimlessly driving around.

Other than that, the PWCs weren't doing circles around people and the water skiers stuck to unoccupied areas of the lake. There were more people out this year that in the past few, and it went surprisingly well.

Me and my dad almost were ran over by a cigarette boat with 8 people on Tonka. They had to be going 60mph and didn't see us until they were 50 yds. away. Both me and my Dad put the rods down and were ready to jump ship.

Strangely this year the recreation crowd (skiiers, tubers, wakeboarders) were the courteous ones. Two boats that decided it was better to hug the shoreline than go around us (we were 30 feet from shore with the whole lake available elsewhere). But that's the 4th for you.

We did have a really good time. Fishing was kinda slow with the exception of one nice pike. Water was great for swimming though, hasn't been this warm in 3 years. Traffic was super light coming home yesterday too.

Some weird fireworks or a home made bomb of sorts someone was lighting off

A couple went off and they were loud and you could feel the boom & flash they let off. grin

Beside that nothing else really.

Shack- was that by any chance Elk Lake? the pic looks like maybe taken from the bar there....and if it was I would guess that it was a meth house explosion by the looks of the fire and area that it is coming from!!! LOL

Just saw a guy that was solo, started driving around in fast circles as soon as the show was over. Saw him at the dock later, tried to help him dock his boat. Then it was an adventure for him to back his trailer up. He ran into the dock once with it. I motioned to the sheriff when we left, so I don't know if he got popped or not.

This wasnt on the water but its the craziest Independence day thing I ever saw. I was in Des Moines, IA for a wedding. The parade in the suburb town of Windsor Heights went on even tho it was raining. It was pouring, I mean 30mph tops type pouring, heres the honor guard, a left, a left, a left... I walked back and got the car and I was right behind the tail end charlie police car. All these soaking wet kids throwing soaking wet candy to soaking wet spectators. Floats with the decorations falling off, one old car in the parade died. Funny thing was it was like 85 degrees even with the rain. Only parade I will remember for the rest of my life. The street was just paved with candy the kids didnt pick up because of the monsoon. Awesome. Even better than when the drunk bartender punched the groom at the reception.

Shack,

That was probably an attempt at a salute (those white flash-bombs you see at professional fireworks shows). They are illegal to buy in all states, but are fairly simple to make. All it takes is a lot of black powder and some sort of propellant to get it up. Looks like the timing was a little off on that one. Done correctly they are extremely loud (you can actually see it in the water on a calm day). I know there's a few guys on Magnor that have blasted a few off in years past.

That guy broke 2 laws, the speed limit out there is 40 (20 at night) and there is a no wake within 150 feet of any fisherman. I bet if you asked all the boaters on 'tonka maybe 1 in 20 would know about the 150 foot rule.

Yeah we had on of them types on the lake I frequent also... missed a loon and its young one by a few feet. Quick call the local CO and I noticed his boat was on the trailer in the yard the rest of the weekend.

During a Fourth of July boat parade at Lake Maloney (Nebraska), two high school kids in a low slung fiberglass racing boat were zigzagging through the procession and crashing into the wakes of the bigger boats. Their boat nosed under a wake, (as in fully submerged) and they came up screaming for help. Immediately, everybody in the parade broke ranks to "rescue" these guys, all converging on the distressed boat at high speed. After a couple more boat swampings, several near collisions, and a half dozen men overboard, all were saved, and a good time was had by all...

Was out for a joy-ride on Okaboji (Iowa) with my buddy in his yamaha exciter jet boat. We ran out of gas on the west end (his cabin was on the east end) and had to flag down a 28 Donzi. Long story short it was a couple that were really nice and towed us back to their place to call a friend to come pick us up. There was a HUGE house party going on back at their house and I would say it had to have been a 2 million dollar 6000 sq. ft. house. When we couldn't get ahold of anyone to pick us up, the daughters (which were our age)of the homeowners offered to drive us back in the Donzi. That was the craziest ride of my life!

Whoa whoa whoa, 28' donzi, $2M house, party, on the lake, you and a friend, you're in college, daughters your age!!?? Why did you ever leave? wink

Too funny. I would have to agree. As I was reading it, I thought it might be going somewhere else but then I quickly remembered what 'forum' I was reading.
