Loons and chicks

Recommended Posts

Was fortunate enough to witness these babies on their first day in the water after hatching. Local loon couple that have been around a number of years. I always seem to see the babies long after hatching so this was kind of fun. Apologies for posting a bit larger than normal but at 800 pixels the babies just get lost at the smaller size.

Beautiful images. I'm particularly drawn to the second. The addition of the insects in the air, and the way the adult bird almost seems to be eyeing the fly make for an unusual and appealing presentation.
