WORK BOOTS

i wasnt sure where to post this... but im looking to get a new pair of work boots ive had the wellington style boots and really like em so i would like to get another pair... anyone had redwing boots? they seem really nice but expensive. or i see dr. martens makes industrial boots anyone had any experiance with them? any imput would be nice thanks

I've been in the masonry bus. for over thirty years,last year I bought a $50.00 pair of "dickies" with the flat sole. I've had red wings, sears diehards and most of em out there, the dickies were for me the most comfortable and as durable as any other boot I've owned. I know red wings are as good as they get but weren't comforable for me.

For every day working boots I go with Red Wings for comfort and they can stand a lot of abuse. Over the years I have bought at few boots that looked and felt good in the store just to get them home and not be able to wear them or have them srink to much after getting them wet. I've never tried the timberland work boots but I have had a few good pairs of shoes from them.

Another Vote for the Red Wings. The other goo dthing about them for a bunch of models if you take care of the leather you can get new soles put on ofr about $60-$75 and get more wear out of them yet. It is all my brother, dad and I wear and we are all work construction.

Another thing I forgot to mention about the Red Wings I have now:

Got them last May, treated them right away and they fit like a glove from the start, best fitting boot I've ever had, not much of a uncomfortable break in period so I loved these boots from the start. 4th of July weekend I went out to my buddies place for the weekend but when I left I could not find them at all, thought someone stole them. Man I was bummed, I kept asking my buddy if he's seen them around and complained to my roomates on a daily basis. Fast forward to October when my roomate who does rock walls was working out at my buddies place and noticed a pair of boots hanging in the tree with the laces tied together. Let them dry out for a week and have worn them almost every day since, they still look almost new except for normal wear and tear.

I think I know who did it, i did the same thing to his hunting boots only on a power line. But he found his right away and I would have told him, not let them sit up there for 3 months in the rain and I think even snow. When I asked him about it he acted like he knew nothing about it but I will get him back.

Red wings hands down. I have tried saving money buying cheaper pairs of boots and they just don't last. I have had three pairs of Redwings in the last 9 years and have only thrown away one pair with the other two still being in great condition. The only problem that I had with the first pair was the leather covering the steel toe wore through from being on my knees and kicking stuff. The guy that sold me my second pair recommended some stuff that you paint over the toe that is kind of like the same stuff that is used in roll on bed liners. I can't remember the name of it, but I have saw it just about everywhere that sells Redwings. If the fit of steel toes are an issue, Redwing makes a boot called the kingtoe that has plenty of room. That must say something when out of all the comments on this post, 3/4 are for redwings.

And 3/4 of these posts also have never tried anything else after settling on RWs either, some in over 20 years! If you're already in a store, just try them on. Maybe RWs will be your choice after all.

On a side note, if you are in the cities, I highly recommend stopping into Nokomis Shoes in Minneapolis at 50th St S and 34th Ave E. Great store run by great guys. Plenty of selection (including factory seconds and returns) and they'll usually give you a cut in some sort if you talk to them about buying them for work (discount, laces, spray, maybe something like that).

Another Red Wing vote. Been wearing them years. I've tried others but keep on going back to Red Wings. The last boot I bought had the conposite toe very comfortable.

sounds like everyone likes redwings....maybe i will break down and buy a pair then... i just want to make sure they will last more than a couple years... ive had the same justin work boots for 5 years and they have held up well but i dont like the toe on them

Danners will be my next boot. Never tried RedWings but after having a pair of Carhardts fail on me after a year and a half I am a bit weary about spending the money for RedWings as they make Carhardt boots. The souls seperated on them .

Farley, I had the same deal with the toe getting scuffed and worn. 2 years ago Rhino Lining (truck bed coating) had a booth at the stock show displaying a pair of boots with the Rhino lining covering the toe. I had mine done and not a scuff in the 2 years that I've worn them daily. Actualy they are the Cabelas Sneaker. I work on a golf course in the spring/summer doing alot of work on my knees. Our wash rack is in the grass and really gets flooded. During hunting season I process wild game. I wear em everyday. Lightweight, waterproof and durable. My feet have never been wet

I hope they hold up better than the Danner Pronghorns I purchased this past Sept, just for hunting season. After a total of about 4-5 full days of chasing grouse in the woods, and probably 10 full days of some pretty hard pheasant hunting in all condition the stitching on both inside tows of my Danners wore through. Sent them back a month ago and am still waiting for replacements as they are on back order. Joe's is taking care of me, but I may have to call Danner soon to see what's up. I believe they are adding a rubber toe to the Pronghorns this year so that may be why they are on backorder.

I am scared they they will do this again next fall.....hard to swallow after spending that kind of money on a pair of boots and only getting 10-15 days before they wear out.

Might just need to go Redwing if that is their guarantee....store not to far from me.

Rockys have always been my favorite I love the put on and wear quality of the Rockys. I got the pair I just tossed in Oct 2000 on my way to elk camp, never wore them untill I got in the mountains and they were great.I also wear Columbias and they are great to, Alot of good boots out there, gotta try a few on and see what you like best.

I do own a pair of Red wings to, so many said they were great boot I finaly tried them, they sit in the porch.

I bought a pair of Carhart boots for a backup and they were junk. I think that these boots are the china redwings that were earlier mentioned. Whatever the case, they were uncomfortable and the sole came off after about 3 months of use keeping in mind that I only wore them when my redwings were at home still drying out.

Another vote for Red Wings.

I work with concrete everyday all summer, as long as the boots are oiled weekly or even monthly, they will last.

I also second the arch liners that you bake in the oven and then put innto boots to form to YOUR arch.

Also, have a qualified salesperson fit you, I was wearing the wrong size for a couple of years until my first pair wore out.

My current pair is 3 years old and more comfortable than any of my other shoes.

The stuff on the toes is boot armor, and it is a must if you work on your knees, it will prolong your boots years.

If you are looking for good boot oil I would highly recomend Obenauf's. The Heavy Duty LP is a really good product. I have had boots that the leather has been really dry, become stiff and looking pretty bad. After using Obenauf's on the boots the boots did a total 180.

i had a pair of john deeres a few years ago... didnt like them they hurt my feet and didnt have much shock absorbent

Go with a company that specializes in footwear. Not a company that specializes in tractors and just jumping on the bandwagon. That includes CAT also.

Red wing all the way. Never had a pair not be good and comfortable. Sure there is other good ones made but ill stick with the reds.
