Largemouth or smallmouth?

Day after day what would you guys prefer to catch and why?

I know I would have to choose smallies because they are more fun to try an figure out and they look way cooler than a largemouth! Everyone of them look different...

I have to say smallies as well. If I were to lean to largies it would be because the cover and ways you can catch them vary more than smallies. But nothing like a school of smallies.

I used to say smallies without a doubt! But then I actually started fishing for largemouths, and now it's 50/50. As I started catching more and bigger ones, I was amazed at their fighting quality compared to smallies.

I'll second this comment. IMHO Largemouth seem to be a little tougher code to break especially when they're off the bank or else buried in the slop. Smallmouth can't be beat for what happens after you hook up, but Largemouths make me work harder to get bites.

Smallies for me, for all the reasons TonkaBass mentioned. Personally, I think smallies are far more fickle and inscrutable than largemouths.

I would've said smallies since I fished the river a lot, but since I moved I fish lakes more. Thus Largie's for me, but you don't need to twist my arm to fish for smallies.

Id rather battle a smallmouth... But I think I prefer to fish for Largemouth... I love to slop fish.

Catching largemouth out of shallow cover is hard to beat although smallies put up a better fight.

I was strictly a LM fisherman until I had my first good day of smallie fishing on Mille Lacs and I've been hooked ever since.

When you guys say "slop" fishing are you talking throwing scum frogs and stuff on topwater or are you talking flipping thick milfoil and the like?

I'm with Deitz on this. LM are a blast to bring in from the weeds but the fight of a big SM is memorable.

I honestly like the fight of a largemouth better. Big smallies seem to dart and shake more, big largemouth just pull.

I can't decide. My favorite lakes are the ones that have good fishing for both smallies and largemouth! I think largemouth are easier to pattern, but fighting a big smallie that attacked a topwater bait is about as good as it gets...

Man that's a tuff one. They both have there moments. It's awesome to set the hook on a big smallie that whoops your but on a spinning rod with 6 pound test only to see he has 4 buddies with him, but its also a heck of a feeling to lay into a largie with a 7'6" heavy action rod with 65lb. braid and not have him move more than an inch. I don't know to me they both sure beat a 28 inch rod and freezing my a#$ off.

Its about 50/50 I think over all smallie fishing is easier, especially river smallies, but to consistantly catch large fish of both takes something special, I have had a harder time catching big largies then big smallies, but there are the days smallies have you scratching your head.

Right now I'm watching Al Linder on FSNorth catch Sm Bass with a pink and white X-Rap one right after another (Wow that guy has big hands ). SM Bass must be the big thing in Bass, All the new fishing shows seem to show SM Bass.
