Why all the anger?

As fun as it would have been to see a team that is located in MN go to the SB, why do people kid themselves that there is some sort of allegiance to this state by the players?

The players don’t care about the fans, except for the fact that they keep watching so they can get paid. I'd bet $100 that the players care more about certain players on the opposing team more than the hometown fans.

I’ve never really understood the whole “we love em they are our boys” bit. That goes for all professional sports I guess, not just the NFL team here.

You don’t have to look any further than the leader himself #4. Do you really think he cared about winning one for MN? That’s funny. He only cared about winning one for #4. Or course he became friends with people on the team and wanted to win one as a team. But NOT for MN. No way, no how. Don’t think for one second he wouldn’t have put on the same act for the Jets had he been in the same position with them.

If anyone should be sad and angered today, it’s Ziggy. Can you imagine how much $ he lost last night. Probably hundreds of millions. Not just from the SB game, but from the guaranteed stadium he lost had that team won. There is NO way the state builds him a stadium now. With a win, I think he probably gets one.

I have a fun time watching the game, but draw the line there. I compare it to watching a movie with highly paid actors. Some movies are really good, some are really bad. I would actually call last nights game really good one. It was fun to watch, I never got bored, and the emotional rollercoater was exhausting.

But in the end, the players will go home to their oceanfront mansions and keep collecting those handsome salaries year after year, while the rest of us working stiffs keep shuffling off to the cube farms every day.

Losing an NFC championship game isn't even on the radar when it comes to things I get angry or upset about in life.

Just like Drew Brees said, Sean Payton said, "Won it for the City of NO."

Katrina etc... all a bunch of hogwash.

Trying posting this in NO this morning.

It was all an evil plan hatched 2 years ago by the evil Green Bay Fans, to ship #4 to Minnesota in a round about way, get our hopes up so high that we all go out and sell out soul to the Man (ie $90 jerseys, $2000 TV's, $60 billion stadiums) only to get this close to the big show, and then whammo, they pulled the rug out from underneath us.

They are all sitting in a ice shack in wisconsin with a huge chesse covered grin smelling of old milwakee beer.

PS this is pretty much tongue in cheek and bad loser talk. We did have an amazing season, and it will be fun to see what happens in the future.

Well sure they will, but the amount subisidized by the state was reduced dramatically by the loss last night.

Public emotion plays a huge role in these things and I'm guessing for the next few months there will be a big negative vibe surrounding the teams management.

It was definitely a fun game to watch and intense down to the end. I would say I was over it about 5 min after the end though. It is just a game after all. I would have loved it if the Vikes made it to the SB since I was only about 3 yrs old for the last one, but there's always next year grin

Nor I. The 1998 season changed my perspective on pro sports and made me really reconsider what I was actually getting into such a fit over.

The irony being if Gary Anderson had made the kick that year I may have turned out differently.

Great original post Dtro!

It reminds me of the scene from the movie A Bronx Tale. When the kid is all upset about Mickey Mantle crying after loosing the world series. And the mob boss tells the kid - "why do you care? Mick dont care about you, he dosnt put food on your table"

And the kid never cared about baseball again...

Dont get me wrong, I enjoy sports but....

Yep thats exactly what it comes down to dtro. And that is the case for all of pro sports. While the fans may cross their minds momentarily today, they are mainly upset that they lost the game as a team and idividually. Then its all about sleeping in and trying to find ways to spend millions of dollars. For me sports is about escaping reality for just a moment in time. Whether they win or lose after the game its back to reality.

nice post dtro. i think last night pretty much defined irony, brett comes in pretty much to spit Green Bay, has probably the best year he has ever had, then with 30 seconds left in the game he has a chance to run get maybe 3 extra yards slide call a time out and let Longwell try a 50 yarder, OR what he did was throw an int instead and blow the chance at the super bowl. Even though i am a packer fan i wanted to see them make the super bowl but knew it wasnt gonna happen, which is why i called Brett tossing that INT right before that play. Here comes the drama for 8 more months of will he retire or come back.

I don't necessarily believe it but I could care less if the players don't care about me personally. Not sure what that has do with anything but oh well.... How can you not understand home team sports FANS taking the “we love em they are our boys” approach?

That's kind of what sports are about.."scratches head" the Vikes, Twins, Wild and even the Timber-puppies, well maybe not the Timerwolves will always be my BOY's. grin

The only team I consider "my boys" are the U of M and my highschool.

Pro sports is entertainment and the players just want a nice payday. They don't care, they will go wherever someone is willing to sign the checks.

While I totally agree with what was said, I would like to point out that VERY few "employees" have any alegiance towards their workplace. It is mearly a source to make money. EVERYTHING we do in life is motivated by money and/or benefits. Which if you think about the way corporate america treats the employees, it should be no wonder. Whether it's athletes, engineers, lawyers, plumbers, hookers, teachers, were all driven by the same desire. $$$$$$$

Nicely said chasineyes. I'm in full agreement with your reply and suggest that the money available to these athletes of today further causes the separation between pro athlete and fan.I can speak from an athlete's view because I played with the Chargers, although it was 35 years ago and yes the game has changed dramatically since 1974 -'75 and most of the problem is the revenue that is available to the players and owners today. It has taken a game and made it a business as you said and who are we to blame for anyone trying to get the best possible compensation available? Today's players still play for their team mates, their coaches and their owners and they do care about the fans, as much as we used to?, I can't answer that but you would not believe the amount of charity work these players do now and a lot of it has to do with their increased wealth.A football team has the same cross section of people a workplace has, some are really good, kind people - others not.

Well mostly because the only reason they are playing for “your team” was because they got the best deal here. Do I blame them? Not a bit. If you don't care about them, then they might as well be robots.

But, IMO there is too much emphasis and focus on Sports in our society. Why is that? Why is it so important for a city to win a title? Why is it so important for a college to be a competitor? Why does a high school need to “recruit” players to be good.

It’s always about the bottom line.

And it’s also a factor in why all these countries are passing up the good ol' USofA in education. Sports should never be a priority.

I won’t deny the big business aspect of it. I will also not deny all the good that some of these athletes bring to a city, but I think scaling it back a bit in general might be worth exploring.

[/quote'] dtro I understand most of what you are saying but truth be told sports will always be important its competition that is what has driven this country. Its a differnt level but that is what ultimately drives us in war who is stronger.who is better I do think that sometimes we as a society get are priority's crossed but sports are also a great tool to teach young people the importance of sacrifice, working together and mental strenght. I'm not angry about the outcome last nite a little bumed out that the vikes didnt win but oh well you cant change the outcome. Only thing to worry about now is wich jig is going to catch some fish tomorow
