MUSKY18
With EJ breaking his leg and done, how do they move the LB's around to fill his void? Greenway move inside? Who is the backup that has now become a starter?
fishin58
I was wondering this also, I would like to see Chad move inside because he has the most experience. I spose Jasper can get his looks there this week, otherwise hope for a healthy Winfield and we play a lot of nickel here on out.....
FISHINGURU
i'm guessing for now its brinkley, maybe we sign a free agent vet?one thing that will improve with ej out is our pass coverage, he's a beast against the run and tackling but gets torched alot in coverage...always has.we did pretty good all last year without him....it hurts to lose him but it definitely doesn't mean the vikes are done now. so haaad
Didn't Farwell play middle last year after EJ got hurt?
walleyes12
Didn't Farwell play middle last year after EJ got hurt? Farwell was out last year with a tore up knee. Vikes brought in Napolean Harris
Born2Fish
I heard Ben Leber will move inside to replace him. Jasper where Ben was at and Chad at his usual. It certainly hurts having him gone, but it's not the end.
MUSKY18
I can't see Leber moving inside.....little on the light side. I too was thinking Brinkley or Farwell. Brinkley has the size to him, and if he could anchor it good enough on the inside, they can keep Greenway on the outside where he is such a stud! He is playing pro bowl level again and would like to keep him where he can help us the most.
Born2Fish
The only reason I could see them moving Ben inside is because he has more experience actually playing this year than Brinkley. I sure as heck wouldn't want to start someone who hasn't played a down this year at your most important LB position.
zepman
I would think they will do everything possible to get Leber on the field more now...he has been playing only 10 or so snaps in alot of games because of the defenses they are running. Leber is a great playmaker.Pretty hard to throw in a rookie right now at middle linebacker but I've only heard good things about Jasper...I'd like to see what he has too. Physically, he could hold his own but I'd be concerned about him calling plays and lining the defense up. Greenway will probably take over much of this now. solbes
Heard this morning a Dr Thorson, who is a doc for the ski team said that EJ could be running in as little as 8-12 weeks. He thought he could be ready by training camp next year. This is a relief. I felt so bad for him, two injuries in two years. At least he may get another chance. Jim Uran
Yep, he's an awesome talent, hopefully he can play again. The news sounds good.
fishersofmen
They said today that Brinkley will start in place of EJ.
koonie
Brinkley is an animal. With a little time and seasoning he will be our next stud middle linebacker.
JBMasterAngler
May be able to play again? Good, let's see if we can get a 4th or 5th round pick for him
FISHINGURU
as much as i like ej i think his days are gonna be numbered but i don't think he'll peak out like we were about to see from him last year when he got hurt.will be fun to see what brinkley can do
koonie
Get Brinkley all prepped for next year and draft Weatherspoon so we can have a linebacker who can cover and play the run. Brinkley, Greenway, Weatherspoon> Henderson, Greenway, LeberHorrible injury for EJ. He was starting to become a force before last years injury. Now he was just rounding back into form and this happens. Getting back to 100% just seems unlikely. I hope it happens though.
Nick Kuhn
With the success most teams have been having with the early round LBs the Vikes may have got a steal with Brinkley. Get him out there and let him loose. I'd say let Greenway take over the defensive calls for the time being though.
zepman
How do you come to that conclusion...he's only played in a quarter or so all year? He has been a nice special teamer.I hope you're right.
Nick Kuhn
Well Brinkley had a mixed performance. Started off the game well and made some nice plays, but there were also a few plays where he was caught flat-footed or with his shoulders turned. Coaching should be able to fix that and overall his positioning was pretty good. With more time on the field he should start making a few more plays as his play recognition and feel for the game develops.
zepman
Yeah, I think he did pretty good for his first start. Sounds like Sanford played pretty well at safety too. It's great to see these guys getting some time in their rookie year...but also sucks to have the injuries being the reason why.
JBMasterAngler
Sometimes it takes an injury to a good player to expose the world to a great player Tom Brady is the best example I can think of in football.
Jim Uran
He's ok!! Can't compare him to Brady just yet, give him a couple of games and we'll be swearing at him I'm sure.
zamboni
Sometimes it takes an injury to a good player to expose the world to a great player Tom Brady is the best example I can think of in football. Jeff Hostettler is another one. Steps in for an injured Phil Simms and wins the Super Bowl. Not bad
pinkfloyd4ever
To soon to know about EJ overall, but what do you all think the Vikes do with him? Cut him after the season and maybe bring back at reduced salary?
