Nice deer Stratos. Yes, I've had great luck with that same call combo several times over the years. Anyone not carrying these around the rut is really missing out on a great opportunity.

After 6 years of trying to get a buck my best hunting buddy got one this morning. He was hot after a doe and she dropped him in his tracks. It was awesome.

I scored a 8 pointer while out with the muzzleloader on Tuesday. Biggest buck I have ever shot so I am pretty happy. full-2507-39921-img_20131203_150747.jpg

That's awesome. Snow and now bitter cold has put an end to my season. That's okay though, Im happy with the way rifle went.

Well I was lucky enough to get selected for the Camp Ripley deployed muzzleloader hunt. So I got up there on Monday morning and had our little in brief and picked an area to hunt. I chose an area on the west side between the two inpact areas. Did not see anything that evening until late and although it was legal shooting hours it was very dark and my sights were loaded with snow. Went back out the next morning and sat in the same area were I had seen her. Was about 10 minutes after shooting hours came and a doe came across the field. She stopped about 85 yeards out and broadside. I put one right in the boiler room,she went about 75 yards and expired. I took her in and she ended up weighing 118 lbs.

The afternoon a friend and I decided to hunt further south in the same area. We pulled in and he sat on the south edge of a tree line were we saw a lot of sign. I started moving north looking for a place to sit. I checked what looked to be an old gravel pit and nothing was in there. As I moved closer to the tree line I see a buck feeding in the woods. I was able to sneak around were I could get a clear shot at him. He kept feeding moving closer. After what seemed like hours (more like 5 minutes) he was out about 80 yards and broadside. I took the shot and he dropped like a rock. So I reloaded quickly and slowly walked down to him. He was still kicking and breathing a little, I had pulled my shot slightly to the right and hit him in the neck / upper chest, I stayed about 5 yards away and waited for him to expire. It did not take long and I was able to get my grubby mits on him!!

2013 SD Season- No monsters but a good season none the less. Glad it's over so I can move on to coyotes!

Archery East River Buck- kind of a bad picture. I had to sneak out of work to find it the next day.

Now that's some good huntin' Rost! My SD trips were sidelined for 2013 and I've been bummed about it. Hopefully we can get back out there in '14.

Nice to see the deer y'all are getting and great to see the kids' firsts. I was lucky enough to be looking over our youngest girls shoulder when she shot her first (a spike) and can't imagine I'll have a more treasured deer hunting memory than that.

I second phorns assessment of Rosts 2nd buck. I love the way that one is framed. Sticker points are a bonus, but just the way it is framed is cool. I am a sucker for the long brow tines though.... Having said that, I wouldn't even think of passing on either of the other two either! Nice work Rost.

      As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…

      I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...

      Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?

      I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.

      Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
