hardest fighter

what do you think is the pound-for-pound hardest fighting fish in minnesota

i would have to say smallies or bigmouth buffalo

Smallie, but I haven't caught a steelhead or laker and I heard those fight harder.

Lake Trout on a ice rod. They are simply awesome in 100 plus feet of water. I would take them over sturgeon and even marlin.

I am a fan of the oldstandby answeres of Sunfish or Smallies too, but even factoring in pound for pound: Channel Cats and Lake Sturgeon just don't give up and will rip drag for several runs like you won't believe.

Catch a five pound channel or sturgeon on walleye tackle and you will know what I mean.

I've fought a few 18" smallies, they fight a lot and don't quit. I've fought tons of 18" carp, they fight very hard and don't give up, until they splash mud in your face .

My decision is a Smarp

i see alot of people are saying sunfish.....

i have caught several 1-pound bluegills and tons of 1-pound smallies........ smallies win. and an 18" buffalo easily fights just as hard as an 18" smallie.

I would have to generally say any river fish. Channel cats, carp, and buffalo all scream the drag.

no way. i'd take a 1 pound gill over a 1 pound smallie ANY day.

second on the river fish, probably steelhead/salmon pound for pound, though sturgeon are crazy too

lol i would take a "pounder" bluegill over a one pound smallie, just beacuse i catch alot less pounder bluegills than smallies.

but IN MY OPINION smallies win the fight

Rock bass hit hard but they fight like little girls.

You can always tell when you got a rock bass on the line because it will hit hard and get you excited thinking something good is on the end of the line but as soon as you think that they go limp and quit fighting. At that second you know you have a rock bass.

Not only is the fight superior to anything else, they will also find anything they can to wrap themselves around which turns a hard fought battle into a Chinese fire drill.

Carp and Channel Cats come close though
