I fish for relaxation and fresh ("eater") fish, Growing up, ALL I got to fish were the polluted Minnesota and Cottonwood rivers. The ONLY exceptions were semi-yearly Northern Minnesota 'vacations' and the occasional outing with my grandpa (he died in '58). I NEVER had a meal of FRESH fish until I started fishing Northern Minnesota lakes, on my own. SOOO, as you might guess, my choice is NORTHERN Minnesota Lakes. When I DO get to go fishing, I head NORTH, to the lakes!! Fresh fish in the skillet over a campfire, no misquiteos, an open "cold one" (or 2) in hand....WHAT more could you ask for?? LIFE IS GOOD!! Rivers by a long shot. Every night has the opportunity of a 50 lb fish. Plus sitting on the river late at night into the morning hours with NOBODY else out there is awesome and incredibly relaxing. I fish for the sport so eating quality doesn't apply to me.

I enjoy lake fishing but we were out the other day and there is always people wake boarding and skiing and it gets really obnoxious when they go up and down the lake creating massive wakes. I definitely enjoy lake fishing occasionally but to me river fishing is much more gratifying. I am what most would call a river rat.

But with that said...I am glad the majority of people lake fish because if they fished the river sometime and caught a 50 lb fish there would be thousands of people on the river.

I used to be a lake guy, but in the last few years I have fished rivers more and I have to say hands down, rivers. In the last month alone I have caught walleye, sauger, catfish, white bass, pike, carp, sucker, goldeye, and buffalo all from the same spot and on the same jig and twister. Like others have said, you never know whats going to be on the end of the line.
