fishnhuntnboy
Im thinking of getting a case of shells for the year and was wondering what size shot everyone uses as a all around shot. I am thinking of getting either 3 or 4 shot. I figure this will take anything down that comes in other than geese i would think.thanks
Neighbor_guy
If you are only going to buy one and you are shooting steel at waterfoul. I vote #2's. Ducks, close range geese, and phesants will all fall to duce's. If you are going to spring for something like heavy shot or one of the other non lead alternatives, 3's or 4's would work for you, for ducks at least. skee0025
#2's
Gordie
yep I would go 2's I have 4's for the first part of the season then switch to a bigger shot later in the season

fishnhuntnboy
I see that #2's would be the choice. I was leaning towards #3's more for just duck hunting. I will wait and see when i have the money to see what i can get

broken_line
i would stray away from a case of shells..start the season with a box of 4s and a box of 2s then use what works best for your type of hunting..
Maxxed Out
I agree. If you buy a case you're typically looking to save some funds. I would wait until the end of the year, when shells are signifcantly discounted. If I did it though I would go with BB. You're going to kill ducks either way, get a load that will smack geese hard enough too.
Crusty old Swede
I'll make things harder for you...buy a box of each 2s &3s and a roll of brown craft paper. Pattern each size and see if your gun has a preference.
cutter08
I shoot Kent 3 1/2 inch 1 9/16 oz BB all year. Ducks and geese.
walleyehunter80
dryloc 3" 3's for ducks and geese and od yeah I am the best shot all around!!!
fishnhuntnboy
the reason i was thinking of buying a case is because cabelas has got a ammo sale going on and im looking to save some money in the long run.I'll have to go buy a box of 2's and 3's and see what shoots best out of my gun. If there is really no differece then i will prolly go with the 2's. I really dont plan on goose hunting at all since i have never done it anyways but you never kno.thanks
candiru
I shoot High Velocity BB at everything, except pheasants. I also keep some 3's or 4's for cripples.
chub
If your hunting over decoys, which I figure you are Three's will kill anything that flies. 4 shot will too, but three's seem to work for me. Another thing that wouldn't be all bad for you given the chance, is to pattern a couple of different shot sizes and makes of shells out of your gun of choice. See what gives you the best all around pattern and go with that. All shells are not created equal, and will pattern differently depending on the gun. dan z
3 shot is my best all round shot choice, flips geese over @ 10 yards and puts a smack on ducks too. depends on your hunting style if your pass shooting 3's wont do the trick, over decoys havent shot ne thing better. opt for 2's or even BB's if your pass shooting 40-50 yds SPEED KILLS
dan z
I shoot Kent 3 1/2 inch 1 9/16 oz BB all year. Ducks and geese. I like to marinade my own meat if I shot a duck @ ten yards with that type of shot might as well live it float cuz there wont be any meat left

Rost
Find a local dealer that will allow you to mix and match a case of shells. My local gas station/sporting goods owner will allow me to buy 10 boxes at the discount rate. Also, Wal Mart sells a 4 pack of steel for $38-$40.But, if you are set on buying just one size shot, I'd go with #2.
Jmnhunter
I like 3's; sometimes they can be harder to find
