itsashooter
Though I'd let my fellow hunters and outdoorsmen that tomorrow morning I'm going in for a Kidney transplant. My goal is to be sitting in my treestand for the Deer opener this November. My dear sister is donating one of her kidneys to me. God love her=I sure do! I look forward to the opener every year for the past 33 straight years, and this year will have a lot more "special" meaning. I never have taken anything for granted in my life, just enjoy every "pure" moment in the great outdoors-Heres hoping my "Minnesota educated" surgeons will get me back on my feet. Feels right sharing my ordeal to come with "brothers of the outdoors"-See ya in the woods!!

MNMUSKIES
My mother had a kidney transplant done two yrs ago, and is doing great. The wierd thing about it, was my mom was up and around sooner than my sister was who donated the kidney. We were told that going into it. The only advice I can give is to take you meds when the docs tell you too. If they tell you take them every 12hrs, make sure you do it. After about a month after the operation, my mom was not very good at taking her meds on time, and started to not feel all that good. It was to the point where she would be in bed about 20 hrs a day. Dad took her down to a follow up appointment and told the transplant team what was going on. Well they figured out what mom was doing. Now we have a timmer for her and once she started to take her meds rights she felt better. She is 68 yrs old and is doing great. You will be amazed how much better you will feel once you heal up. good luck and God Bless.

bigbucks
We'll trust & pray all went well. My brother-in-law donated one to my sister-in-law last August (2008) & both are doing very well. He does point out to her quite often that no one can ever trump him for the best birthday present. Her birthday is actually in August. itsashooter
Hi everyone--I'm already back from the hospital and on the mend. The surgeons were fabulous. The doc took the kidney out my sister in about 2 hours, and about a half hour later they put it in me,(3 hrs total to put in) and had immediate urine flow before it was hooked up! I really feel this was miracle in many ways. We are both doing excellent, and as I sit here and type, I actually feel no pain. If anyone you know has a chance to donate a kidney-Don't think twice-Go for it-Your saving a life-you will feel great about yourself, and best of all, one kidney is PLENTY to give you a completely normal life with NO limitations on your body or lifestyle. Honest to God, I feel like a could climb my treestand right now!! I also know I had LOTS of support and PRAYERS from many relatives and friends. And of course, the members of this great forum with their support and thoughts for me will be cherished forever! Thanks a ton , everyone-Your the best-Successful Kidney Recipient-Bring on the HUNT!! Double D
My wifes grandmother had the same procedure done about 20 years ago.One persons misfortune is anothers gift. A young man in another state was killed in an accident on Christmas Eve. He had donor marked on his license. One of his kidneys was transplanted in to my wifes grandma on Christmas morning. Talk about your holiday gifts.Keep the faith and we'll see you in the woods.DD
BoxMN
My Dad had kidney and liver from a deceased donor, and "Joe" gave my Dad and all of us extra years that we are forever grateful for. Also have my neice who got a kidney first from her mother, that did not pan out, and now from her sister, and it is working out really well. I give a big thank you to your sister, and for all of those who donate. I hope you have a great deer season this year, and a continued great life! You do have the most precious gift of all Just remember, and I am sure the docs told you, but it is never over and you must keep yourself in good health for yourself and your sister Also, rejection can happen, but it is not "rejection" in what most people think, it ends up being a change in meds usually. Glad to hear your story! Enjoy life!!!
