If your kids are not yet old enough, grown and gone or you just run out of nieces and nephews , mentoring the youth turkey hunt is very rewarding.

Saturday morning. Both had nine inch beards. One was 18.5 lbs, the other 23.1 lbs.

This fine Rio Grande was harvested by a 12 yr old on Easter Sunday a.m. west Of Boise in a controlled hunt zone.

I'd called 6 longbeards into gun range before he whacked this terrific 3 yr old plus bird and all between 7 a.m. & 7:25 a.m. We had gun/shooter malfunctions, birds too close, you name it but this mentored youth went home with a stunning bird. 10.5" beard, 1 1/4" spurs and probably north of 20#

22#, 8.5" beard Merriam from Crawford, NE Day 1

Day 3, 3" snow in the hills near Dell,NE bagged a bearded hen with bow, we managed 4 birds in 3 days, 3 hunters.

Well got my first eastern finally in this jake.

That is 2 for 2 for me this year and a first time to fill both tags. It was a great year and I am already counting the days till next year.

Actually that is my Minnesota turkey from yesterday morning. My Nebraska bird is the one entered in the contest. This bird was roosted on a little two acre patch of woods where I hoped he would be. He started gobbling on the roost early so I waited until legal and gave him a few yelps to let him know where I was. He answered each time and I waited until I heard him fly down and gave him a little more yelping and a few clucks. He came out of that little chunk of woods right where I figured he would. Called to him a little and he saw the single hen decoy and strutted in the whole way to where I was set up 125 yards away. Legal time was 5:39 a.m. and I pulled the trigger at 5:55 a.m. It made up for the times where you sit for hours and don't see a thing. 23 lbs., 7.25" beard, .75" spurs. Thanks for posting the pic Borch.

2 missed shots and mass confusion led to this bird this morning for me-

9.5" beard, 1" spur and a 7/8" spur, only 18.5lbs though, and one messed up tail fan! (refer to missed shots about)

Here is my first turkey. Nothing special, just a youngin' 3-4 inch beard, but still fun to call, and beautiful coloring.

I've avoided them till now, because I knew I would become hooked.
