confused really unfortunate the way this thread took a turn.

It has been mentioned before because it is an amazing problem. Take a look at the photos from last weekends Rush Lake Cleanup.. it is appalling to realize the amount of junk left on the lake by others.

Oh yeah... the photos are in the East Central Lakes area under Help for Rush Lake...

Sad that some us of have to pick up after so many of "them" .. but it is what it is and needs to be done for the future of our sport...

Lets get back on point and stop acting like juveniles...

Thanks Gentleman

I was at a small lake a couple of weeks ago and found 5 empty propane bottles and 2 soup cans in the same spot. This is a walk on only lake and I would think that if someone can carry a cooker/heater, propane cylinders and canned soup on the ice, they would be able to carry it off again.

calvin- most people are really stubborn, especially the older generation of fisherman. i have seen guys throw pop cans down their holes. and when i asked why. they would say "when i was a boy my dad taught me to throw all my pop cans in the water, the make a good home for alot of fish"

if its a habit to some people. its just like quitting smoking. its hard

Where did you conduct the survey of the "older generation of fishermen" at? Or is this just a personal generalization??

Swill - came across this post that you made in another forum

Look at it this way, museums are filled with ancient garbage, so it will help future generations to figure out how we lived.

I guess that expains your attitude towards this topic. Pretty sad.

Survirorman?? Really?? sick "future generations" This is the reason we want slobs to take there bagged up cr@p and other garbage with them OFF THE LAKE!

We did too in the '60s. Times have changed. We also used tires to make paths down to the lake when there wasn't a road or a natural path....Would I still do it??? No way. But it wasn't just our parents, it was the way to get rid of things back then. I am very happy that most of the new generations look at things much differently.

If I would have had more time & help, I would have seperated out the aluminum cans and donated them to the Green Lake Assoc. They have a big collection dumpster at the Chisago lakes Liquor parking lot. They use the proceeds to help control Eurasion Milfoil in that lake.

Come to think of it, maybe I should have our lake assoc, put one of those big recycle dumpsters at the landing. Would probably have to empty it every couple weeks. Money would be put back into improving the lakes. Now that N/S Center Lakes have E.Milfoil, the funds will com in handy.

The wood I collected helped replenish my bonfire wood supply, and I actually picked up a few nice 2x4's that will go towards some new shelving I need to build.

To answere the question posted in the title... Yes, some people are lazzy. We are also surrounded by slobs. And some people suck at life.

I picked up 8 bags of trash around the parking lot at work today (medical complex) and did not even get half of the grounds. People are pigs and no one cares, "someone else will pick it up". In the winter it all gets covered with snow. A "clean slate" every couple of days. In the summer people are picking up after the pigs everyday, most people just dont notice.

IMO it is just another reason to pull the plug on the permanent houses. If people had to pull em in everynight they would not leave as much junk piled up next to the house or in the banking. I hate to say it and I am generalizing, but most of this trash is left by the permy's. Just my observations. Shoot the mesanger if you feel the need, keep in mind, I will shoot back.

We also used tires to make paths down to the lake when there wasn't a road or a natural path....Would I still do it??? No way.

Why not? Chalk that up to the ReUse part of Reduce/ReUse/Recycle. What's worse: Burning the tires, Burying the tires, or coming up with another use for the same tires after their initial task was completed? We had better not use those tire for swings, either. Or dock bumpers. Or under Pontoons for storage. ??? Why not? They aren't doing the environment any short term harm other than giving mosquitoes a place to reproduce.

I've seen shredded tires sold in a bag for a pretty premium price to be used in playgrounds. Is that littering? Getting a second, or even a third use out of a product is better than recycling in my opinion.

And beleive me; I don't like the slobs out there either. When pulling off my perm house this year I picked up blocking from about 3 different houses, and had to use my chisel to get about half of the junk loose. Beer bottles, cans, 1 lb propane tanks, McD's bags, it's all pretty sad, and I pick it all up. I do draw the line at feces, though.

I have an idea, for anyone that is caught littering, their punishment should be to spend an entire weekend cleaning up that lake in the early spring. Make sure all the news crews are out there to film the whole thing too.

Someone needs to be made an example of.

i posted my own personal experience as an example. just saying that once something becomes a habit. it can be hard to stop

Agreed. Public humiliation is a great disciplinary tool. I've heard of a few electronic billboards that have the pictures and names of "jon's" that have been convicted of illegal activities in mpls. This could apply to those no good litter bugs and slobs as well.

Personally, I'd like to see the person that litters tied to a post for the weekend in the local garbage dump. sick

People seem to be oblivious to the trash.

When we were cleaning around the folks fishing, hardly anyone would look at us.

Got a couple thank you's and a couple people grabbed a few things themselves. That was nice. And a couple people just asked how it was going - have you caught any?

I said "Lots!" to one guy (while chiseling blocking) and he asks "Crappies?!".

I didn't have any fishing gear with. Baffling.

If you don't care, you won't see it. When you do care, it makes you mad.

I'm just hoping all this commentary starts turning the tide and starts making more of us notice what's happening so we can change it. smile

Is there nobody that knew who's houses those were? I mean that I had to have my name and or lic# in 3" type blah blah blah we all had to. But isn't that so they/we would be acountable for that area ten ft around the house? I'm not one who likes seeing co's while I'm fishing (although I have never had anything to hide or gotten a ticket for anything either) but shouldn't there be one that takes pics from time to time to know who is where? They should place a warning on the door to let the owner know they are being recorded.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
