Bring it to cabela's to put it in their tank....then demand they give you more money.....then drive around with it in your livewell until it dies and the DNR fines you for transporting a live fish without a permit........That's what happened with the last state record! lol

I would want to release as soon as possable though, before the bass would die. would I just put the bass on a stringer tell the DNR got there ?

I would also keep the lake a secret, so it doesnt get fished out as soon as people know there is a state record in it

You would need to study up and find out which tackle, lure, and boat companies offer the most money for catching a record fish. Then tell the world you caught it using all of their equipment. (good practice for being a bass pro) Cha Ching!!

i think if you want it to be official you have to catch and tell.

i am going to e-mail the dnr and find out. i will post their response

I bring along a cooler in the fall for one reason, and one reason only, just in case I think I've caught the state record largemouth bass. (After in-boat weighing and measuring)

I'd chuck it in the cooler of ice and quickly head to the nearest official scale with a witness in tow. It's just one fish, a fish that has beaten the odds until now. And I will not have one qualm about killing one bass.

well that speedy dnr just got back to me below is our correspondence:

hello - i am just wondering about a few things regarding state record catches. I am wondering what a person is to do if they suspect they have caught a state record fish? is there a hotline? Also can a state record come out of a private pond? non-public water access? or does it have to be water open to the general public? thanks for your time

dnr response:

Isaac,

The water must have public access. Please see application and rules at http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/outdoor_activities/fishing/recordfish_app02.pdf

Thank you

Star Tribune article Oct. 11,2005:

"Payer said Raveling apparently violated DNR regulations when he transported his bass from the lake to the DNR area fishery office in Montrose for positive identification. And it would have been a separate violation to transport water in his livewell from an infested lake.

At Montrose, area fisheries manager Paul Diedrich issued Raveling a permit for him to take the bass to the new Cabela's store in Rogers, where Raveling hoped it could be displayed.

When that didn't work out, Raveling took the fish to Brainerd, apparently in violation of the permit he was issued and state fishing regulations. He put the fish in a large tank owned by Al and Ron Lindner of Lindner Media Productions, who have a permit to keep some native Minnesota fish species on display for photographic purposes.

I wouldnt bad mouth Mark. I dont know where the part about demanding money came from... From the sounds of it he just wanted to keep the fish alive and display it for the public. The lindners said they would pay his fine for hauling it to them. I believe he even wanted the fish released after it was certified but it wasnt allowed.
