New Bass Resolution

Deitz Dittrich

Recommended Posts

I dont do much for new years resolutions.. But a new bass resolution is one I can go for..... So, what your NBR? What technique are you going to improve or learn this year? Do you have a size goal? a number of trips goal?

For me, my goal is to keep a good journal this year. EVERY DARN YEAR I say I am going to do this, and EVERY DARN YEAR I fail miserably at it..

THIS IS THE YEAR.. this year I will keep a journal.. Maybe if I have a FM Journal club or support group I will be better at it?

Dietz- I also need the support group for the journal. Every year I say I'm going to do a better job of it and it never lasts. Last year I carried a hand held recorder with so i could write stuff down at a later date when I had time and still sluffed off on it. Maybe theres a 12 steps program for it! grin

This year I'm going to try to become a better jig n pig thrower. I will experiment with different types of jigs as well as trailers. Also, I will work on my presentation techniques and will not be afraid to throw a jig greater than 5/8ths oz.

Also, I really want to work on dock skipping with a baitcaster...

I keep a paper and pen in my pocket for walleye fishing. Never tryed it for bass, though..as I usually dont ever measure bass unless theyre big. PLUS its hard to reach in your pockets when its cold and rainy/snowy in may/early june and your hands are froze.

Learn how to fish those silly drop-shot rigs more effectively so Dittrich can't say, "You should really start fishing drop-shots. They fit your fishing style". Cripes, I can't believe I really want to do that! Next thing I'll be fishing pads and docks all day long I suppose.

Journals are great. I think they really payoff when I spend time on the river and can look back at water levels in conjunction with where I caught fish.

My goal this year is to spend as much time as possible on Pool 9 of the Mississippi River. My favorite Smallmouth pool.

I use the BASS daily planner as a journal. I've kept one since 1999 or 2000 I think, regardless, it definitely is worth the time and effort that goes into it. Catch rates have increased consistently each year as patterns are easier to key in on at different times of year and on specific lakes.

As for a goal for the upcoming season, I plan to spend more time with swimbaits, as well as fishing water deeper than 20'.

I used them last year for the first time... the very first night in the first 5 casts, I cast out, then set the rod down to pick up the forceps I dropped. Then my rod almost flew out of the boat and I reeled in a fat 19" largemouth. Made me a believer smile
