Thought I'd share a unique story from my brother. A couple days ago my brother was telling me about his fishing experience on New Year's Day.

He and his 12-year old son were fishing on a small local lake near Buhl called 6-mile when his son hooks a decent northern. While working on getting the fish to come up through the hole, out of the corner of his eye my brother sees his fishing rod take off down the hole. They eventually got the northern into the shelter and it turned out to be about 8 or 9 pounds. His rod was nowhere to be found and there was no line wrapped around the northern.

Anyway, sometime shortly thereafter he rigs up another rod and is looking down his hole when he sees his other fishing rod float by just under the ice. He reached down and managed to retrieve his rod. No fish but who woulda thunk he could get that lucky?

About 5 years ago I was fishing with in a friends house, bail was open on reel and bang it was gone, line must have caught leaving the spool and down the hole it went. I was bummed, it was my favorite rod/reel. 3 days later my Dad is fishing in his house about 30 yds from my friends house and he catches a 3-4 lb northern. He notices there's another line... he starts pulling and you'd never believe it but it's my rod. Here this northern had been pulling my rod around the bottom of the lake and the line (4lb) didn't snap. SO I know what you mean by lucky!! smile

last year i was fishing and the line got to close to the heater and melted and down the hole the jig and 8 inches of line it went. Well i kept fishing and ended up snagging the line how i dont know and got the lure back, that was 1 in a million,

I lost a lure to a snag once and after a few more casts with a new lure I snagged up again. This time it came free with a little extra weight to it. I thought it was a twig or something but wouldn't you know it, I caught my previous lure, some how the point of the hook on my new lure caught the eyelet of the old lure just perfectly. Its hard enough to thread your line through the eye of a jig let alone snag it with a hook.

When I was a kid we were drifting on Winny, and my brother set his rod against the rail of the boat and went left it to get a pop or something. It started to slide and was soon out of the boat. He was [PoorWordUsage] as he just got it that week. One of the kids we were fishing with in another boat started yelling "dads got a big fish on!" Turns out he had hooked an eyelet with his spinner and reeeled in my brothers rod/reel.

When I was a kid we would go out to Lake Oahe in South Dakota every year. Anyone whos been there knows how big, and how deep that lake is. Well, I think I was around 10 that one year, and got hooked on something. My dad tells me to reel in, we are moving to a different spot. Well we had been trolling and I probably had 150+ yards of line out and my rod got dropped in the water. My dad was livid. I mean mad as a wet hornet. 2 days later my great aunt and great uncle come up to out camper, They hooked that very same rod and reel. I figure about a 1 in a 10 million chance they found it.

Great stories.

When I was a kid we were fishing Lake Sakakawea from shore. My Dad had something take his line good. Snapped the rod and his favorite bait caster when shooting off. He offered us ten bucks if we could find the rod. My brother and I were fishing the same spot the next morning and thought I got a snag. Up came the reel. Nothing on the end of it though.

Heres a story I heard on Red Lake when we were up in early Jan. 2 days prior to us fishing someone had lost a rod / reel combo thru the hole. Well the house next to us got a bite and started reeling it in. On the other end was a fishing pole that was fighting back. So the guy starts reeling on the new pole and lands a 38" pike through the ice. The pike had to go back but he got a new pole. I did see the pike but can't confirm the rest of the story.

Years back my grandparents would fish from shore on Sakakawea for big northerns. Fish took a rod in one day which they figured was lost. 3 days later they hooked into a big fish which had another line in its mouth when then finally landed it. Sure enough, they pulled in the other rod. Ohe yeah, the fish....21# and went on the wall with two others over 20. I tried to get them to mount the rod somehow with the fish. :-}

When I was a kid (teenager), a guy drilled a hole right next to my house and put in a tip-up. He was so close to my house, I could see his minnow and line from my large spearing hole.

Later, A 6 pound northern takes his minnow and comes swimming in my hole. I speared the northern...and lucky for me I got the line unhooked before he ran to the flag.

"Oh, I missed him" he said.

I felt like saying "I didn't", but I kept quiet.

So, I bet you put a tip-up next to the house whenever you are spearing now. smile

While fishing a river in Florida with my dad and grandpa, I set my rod down to get a pop from the cooler, and the rod took off and into the water. A week later my grandpa was fishing the same spot with my uncle and they saw the rod tip sticking up out of the water. My uncle eventually caught the rod. I was relieved since it was grandpas rod...

Last Summer while trolling for just about anything willing to bite my now brother-in-law hooked a huge fish. He was using his heaviest Pike rod that he takes into Manitoba for the biggins. The fish had his rod bent like mad. He fought that fish for a good ten minutes before it finally surfaced. That's about the time I asked if it actually felt like a fish.... Turned out to be a portable fish finder! Still had the transducer with the suction cup attached! Didn't taste all that well, but sure was funny.

When I was a kid I was fishing up north with my dad and gramps when something huge nailed my lucky crank, bent my rod and half, and snapped the line. I was pretty bummed I lost the fish and my lucky lure.

Later that night a huge storm rolled in washed a bunch of carp and debris up on the shore of the resort we were staying at. I was walking a long the beach looking at the bits of driftwood and whatnot when I spotted the same crank I lost the day before. I lost it about a mile away from where I found it. I never could figure out if it was the exact same crank or not, but either way, one in a million.

4 years ago I anchored in heavy winds so I was drifting slightly. My anchor wrapped around the line of an almost brand new anchor. 1 year ago while swimming in the same spot with the anchor I threw it in only to find my cousin untied it. 25 foot sounds easy to dive to but little did we know its pitch black. We were kids though.

thurs morn got my rose got stripped on my dead stick when I set the hook. 2 min later jigged a crappie with a minnow in its mouth. How did I know its my minnow? The minnow had no tail! I had cut the tail off with a sissors to slow down the presentation!!!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
