Bobbers

Do you guys like using the nerf bobbers with a stop or the bobbers where the line goes through the bobber with a stop? Thanks

I like the regular ones unless it is too cold, then the styro ones work better as the line all stays under water and does not freeze up so easy. So to make a long story short they both are fine, kind of nice to have both though.

I'm just thinking the nerf ones so If i want to fish with out one I don't have to undo all of the line. Just snap it off. Know what I mean?

After first trying an ice buster bobber (the nerf ones) I quit carrying anything else. They don't freeze, you can cut them to the exact size you need to match your bait, and you can take them off or change sizes without re-rigging.

I think you're talking about the ice buster boobers. What I like about them besides what you and smeese pointed out is you can cut them down so they just barely float and the fish won't feel them.

BTW, you can buy them right from the Outdoor Pro Store.

The "undo-ability" is one nice feature of the ice busters (nerf style foam). You can put them on and off without any retying. But, the ice buster isn't the only one that has that feature.

Something they have that is fairly unique is that you can trim them down to the point where they're just barely holding up your jig. It helps when the fish are on a light bite. I have a few of them that are pre-trimmed to various sizes due to prior use on different jigs, and I always make sure I have a spare or two just in case I start with a bigger jig or something on any given day.

Like anything else in my arsenal, each has its use and need. Overall, depends on depth and species. I'd say the foam type get used for panfish and the other for larger fish, but I guess that's simply because I've done it that way for so long. Though quite often, I don't use any bobber at all.

When I use bobbers I always now use the nerfy ones. I also cut it to barely float, about 1/8 to 1/4" max out of the water.

I was out fishing crappies yesterday and I could see bites my partner never saw, in fact he never even caught one. He used a smaller styro one that was half out of the water. On my bites the bobber would raise up just a little bit, hardly noticeable, but I would set the hook and have one on.

And yes you can snap them off the line quickly if needed and your knot is still there for a quick depth reference.

Ice Busters all the way. Another fun thing to try is having the bobber cut down just under nuetral so you get a really slow drop. When the bobber stops or raises up you've got a bite.

Ice Busters are great for the winter. But they do freeze. Froze up on me constantly at the Fishing Extravaganza yesterday. Still better than the plastic ones though.

I have used nothing but Ice Buster bobbers for years now. A great bobber for a cheap price and very easy and handy to use.

Save them you can tie them back on if you got to a spoon jig from a tear drop jig.At almost $3 for two(rip off)gotta find a way to utilze it all.

You also can make your own with that round window + door insulation and insulation a paper clip

Thrill makes one they call the supreme, it has a rubber collar on the bottom that allows you to remove the bobber with very little effort and without cutting the line.

yes the icebusters do work very well...when the fish are really biting i take the bobber off and just use the bobber stop as a depth guide...then just pop it back on when it slows down.

plus, you can play some pretty good tricks on people with them
