Fishing license in possession?

spitz31

Question

Going ice fishing for the first this season and realized I left the ol fishing license in the boat, which is in winter storage several hours away. Anyone know the regs about this type of thing? I seemed to think that a CO could use your driver's license or DNR number to validate your fishing license, but I'm not sure. Anyone ideas? I'm not comfortible risking it as I don't want to break the law, but I do have a valid license, just not in my possesion.

Page 7 of the DNR fishing regulation hand book

"Note: All persons required to have a license (including stamp

validations) must have it in their possession while fishing and while traveling from an area where they fished."

Page 5

"Duplicate licenses can be purchased from any ELS agent. Each license and stamp costs $2.50.

A drivers license, Minnesota identification or MNDNR number is required to obtain a duplicate."

At best they will require you to mail in the license. This happened to my brother in-law in 97'. Did not have it with and got a warning, but had to mail his license in and they mailed it back right away.

We got checked last week. Sidekick had left his home in his other jacket. He showed his drivers license and the C.O. gave him a warning ticket and said it was no big deal. She would check it later and if all was okay that would be the end of it. If not he would get a ticket in the mail. Very nice lady C.O. Sure beat getting yelled at by some grumpy old fhart.

Remember its 2.50 per license. i forgot mine last fall and got a duplicate and i needed sportsmans, early goose, waterfall stamps... it is 2.50 per each individual license or stamp, not 2.50 for all.

I went to get a duplicate Fishing License on they way up-north one time and I had my 3 bucks out and she said $20.50 please.... I about dropped dead and would have walked out but it was a smaller Bait shop so I paid it!... DOH!

I have a duplicate taped in my boat and I have 1 in my wallet. That way if I forget the wallet in the truck in the summer Im ok. Or if I dont take the duplicate out in the winter Im ok.

Awesome idea Northlander. I'll be doing that this year. $2.50 well spent.

I was out with my brother and the CO asks us for our licenses. I show him mine and my brother has pulls out his deer hunting license. His fishing license was in his hunting jacket! We all got a kick out of it at my brother expense. The CO just ran his name with no ticket.
