Jim Uran
Pig 'Gill caught in 14' of water tonight.. plucked off the bottom with a jig and plastic!
OnAFly
Very nice. You picking those up lindy rig style? I see the sinker and I assume a microjig with plastics. I've picked up some big gills fishing walleyes that way.
Jim Uran
Yeah I just use the sinker as extra weight sometimes when I'm casting.. I'll cast it out and drag it along the bottom, makes it easier to move it around with a 1/32 oz jig tied on. They smack it pretty hard too

Jim Uran
An awesome night to get out and find some ice fishing spots. The lakes were glass and I found some fish in the 18-22 foot range, anywhere from 1-4 feet off of the bottom

KrappieKilla
Jim, you are right, last night was an awesome night to go scouting for early ice spots. It was interesting, I was fishing a smaller lake and found similar results as you did. Fished in some common 30' early ice spots, fish were suspended 20-24' down. The spot I was fishing is one of my crappie spots and I worked it with jig and minnow/plastics and also tried slip bobbering and I couldn't keep the sunnies off (a good thing) (all nice tho, right around 8-8.25"). Never really seen that sunny production out of this lake. Have you found this recently where the sunnies are mixed in more with the crappies than usual? Jim Uran
Yes, last night they were mixed in... I found them mixed for most of the evening, but as it got later, the crappies rose up in the column and the sunnies stayed down towards the bottom. Here is a cool pic of a nice crappie I caught last night too
