What irritates you most on ice?

Im not talking about people making noise or whatever, what can go wrong with your fishing equipment or experience that makes you most frustrated?

Mine is when a nice fish gets wrapped up in the transducer cable before I pull it and all you get is that one second look at it and FLASH! gone... frown

ohh back in the day I knew a guy who had one of the old stick rods with the pointy end and he sat on it...not a good day. But I'd say not much irritates me on the ice, its more of a place to kick back and relax and don't get me wrong I love to fish but its a great get away...but ok last weekend went out to our wheelhouse and a guy parked his house right on our 2 wheel track to get there so we got to blaze a new trail to the house. then spun down and got stuck backing up to the house, then moved and auger wouldnt start, then propane ran out...then i sat down, grabbed a deck of cards and played a few hands with my brother and just laughed a bit...lifes too short, but we borrowed a neighbor fisherman's auger and ended up with a nice mess of eyes and we left happy. and we had an extra propane tank with

Up until last night, not much irritated me on the ice. I buried a treble hook in my thumb at about 10:30PM, off to the emergency room. 2 hours later I was at home.....

On a side note, the back hooks on the #3 chubby darters are really really sharp.

No I didn't catch a thing either, I was just getting ready to move in shallower when I hooked the big one

This past weekend one of my buddy's I was staying in the shack with, caught a crappie.. Then my line went down.... Then the transducer cord went down.. Then my set line with minnow went down.. One crappie.. One big mess.. There was no line left in the water.. Made sure of that.. Took 1/2 hr. to cut and untangle lines etc.. I have only had this happen with eel pout and norderns.. Then the crappie burped!! at us..

Well this is usually a good problem cause it means I've caught a fish...but what drives me nuts is when I'm pulling in a fish on a tip up and all the slack line gets caught up in the wind, wrapped around my boot, stuck on the ice scoop, knotted through the minnow bucket handle.. and not to mention the windchill is 9 below. I believe I've mastered "playing the wind" and have a 98% no tangle success ratio..but that last 2% really irritates me.

Cutting my finger on the auger blade while cleaning the slush off and having it bleed for 20 minutes. Plus tangled my tip up line to the point of having to cut most of it. But then I always carry at least 2-4 with me in case this happens, same with rods, just set them aside grab another and get back to fishing. Fix the mess latter at home where it is warm. Had a small northern bite my thumb once and would not let go, that was sure a day spoiler.

Aloop in my line gets down underneath the spool and ends up getting wrapped around the internal gears. Geez, you'd think with all the technology that has transpired in the past years they would have figured out a way to put some kind of a flange on the bottom of the spool to close up that small gap. Oh well, as previously posted grab another rod and get on with life. Bill

I 2nd the removing the slush from the auger blades - OWE!

Not paying attn to the tipup and the flag is up. Lost fish

Twisted line on bobber rod and shiner gets hit, too bad I have loops in the line so I can't reel. This happened on the same day as the tipup deal and another lost fish.

Running out of propane for the big buddy when it's -15 out there and the fish have finally just started to bite! I carry 3 or 4 one pounders along now to avoid that again in the future, those Yukons can cool down in a hurry on a windy night! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
