Normally I don't leave anything in my house i've always been paranoid about it thats why we invented the neighborhood watch program. Well sometime in between 8 last night and 9 this morning somebody broke into my house got all my gear and destroyed the inside. The only gear left was the two rattle reels and my chisel. I understand to break in and take the gear witch was stored in a screwed down compartment under the bench but why the [PoorWordUsage] break everything all to pieces and punch holes in the walls????? This i will never understand.

After yesterdays news of being laid off all i wanted to do was enjoy a little ice fishing this weekend, now im [PoorWordUsage] off about the layoff and my fish house!

Now to fight with the insurance company only 1000 coverage cause the house has wheels?? Who cares if it has wheels. 1000 - 500 deduct= 500 to get new vex, camera, couple new poles, might as well forget about the tackle box!

thanks for listening

PS why steal someones catch cover lids????????

I had this happen to me a couple of years ago also. mad.gif I was called at work by a neighbor on the lake, who told me he propped my door back on my shack and that I'd better call the cops to inform them of the break in. I called a friend who is a cop in town and met her at the shack after work. My wall and door was propped up against the shack. The authorities followed the tracks from fish house to fish house and found the guys. They were in THEIR shack fishing with all the stolen items in their truck. Needless to say they caught them and man did they pay me in order for me to fix it back up.

Last year I put the house out and fished in it till 10 pm and was back out there @ 5am and had no heat. I walked around to check the propane and it was gone, the line was cut and my regulator was gone also. I called the authorities and told them and they said that aprox. 30 propane tanks were stolen the same night. He asked if I had marked my tank in some fashion, which I didn't, so I had no evidence since there was no snow. \:o

This just shows you that their are people out there who want to vandalize and ruin others pride and joy for the fun of it. We all like to go and relax on the ice with no problems, but that is changed quickly with people who don't care, nor respect others in general.

Got to be frustrating as heck, almost seems like you get penalized for having nice stuff on the lake. Sad as it seems a guy almost needs a big wooden box out there, worst they could do is burn it down. Seriously though I wouldn't leave anything out there! No tank, poles, any gear. It's the only way to avoid trouble. Always a few %*@%!^ out there that either want to steal or destroy what's not theirs. Sure would like to catch em at sometime, but then I would end up in jail.

My family had a permanent fish house on blue lake in Isanti county for several years in the 90's. The only thing we would leave in the house was the light bulbs. people would break in just to steal the light bulbs. The final straw was someone taking a chain saw and cutting right threw the wall to get in side and "use the facilities" right in the center of the floor.

To much hastle to wory about it now I think.

Knock on wood, I've never had my shack broken into. However, mine's on wheels and normally, not always, but normally if I'm not spending the night in it, I take it with me. If I do leave it on the ice, I take all my stuff and don't lock the door.

I live and fish in a fairly unpopulated area. I've actually gone out to my shack to find people using it. I didn't mind, they brought their own propane tank for heating their portable. They had the heat on and the holes open. As it turns out, we're friends to this day.

I've also gone to the lake to find friends of mine using my house. Once again, they had the heat going and the holes open.

It's sad to hear the stories of break-ins. All we can do is teach our own children to respect the property of others.

I think I would have a case of red butt if someone was using my house I didn't know, bringing their own heat or not. That's pretty dang disrespectful. Friends, I wouldn't mind at all.

Years ago I had a small 5 by 6 wood house tht I never locked. I notice when I went to the lake there was a car parked by my house. No one was in sight around the area, opening the door there was a older guy I knew fishing in my fish houser. I told him he had to get out, he said you can fish some where else, its too cold for me out side. What do you do, If I threw him out bodyly , he would tell every one what a dog I was. I just went back home. Kind of funny now, but it wasn;t then.

When I had my perm on Mille Lacs, I had people fishing in my house once too. At first, I was POed. After a minute I thought about it- the house is warm and the holes are open. I was there by myself, and it was a guy and a gal in there and it was quite cold so I let them fish with me. They gave me a 50, an apology, and we hammered the fish that day.

Like I said before, locks just keep the honest-honest. Its better to just leave them unlocked so things don't get wrecked.
