Amsoil?

Alright guys. I am still thinking of switching back to a gas auger from my electric. I went electric for my wheelhouse. My question is if I use Amsoil in any gas auger will it eliminate or come close to eliminating the exhaust? I hear how the Nils is almost exhaust free with this stuff. More importantly will it keep the auger from spitting unused oil out the muffler? I would really like to go to gas and want to use it in my wheelhouse but don't want to totally trash the inside of my house.

Anyone have experience with the Strikemasters and Amsoil? This is the brand I would really like to get.

I run the Amsoil Sabre in my Strikemaster and I have virtually no smoke coming out of the muffler and no oil. It took a little while to clean out the old oil from the muffler but after a tank or two it was smoke and oil free.

Go with the Amsoil Sabre Professional and you won't be dissapointed. I used it in my old auger and it made a huge difference. What I would suggest is empty the old gas out and run some Amsoil mix in there. Do it according to the bottle and not what the Auger says. You actually use less oil because it lubricates so much better then the old stuff. After you have run a little gas through it take the 2 bolts holding the muffler on. Get a bunch of Qtips and spray with Brake Cleaner 1 at a time and scrub out the inside and outside of muffler. Once that looks like new you can see inside the motor and the piston. Advance it enough with the recoil so it is flush with the exhaust port. Take more Qtips and clean the top of the piston and anything else you can reach. You will get a quicker response out of the oil mix that way. I would also change out the spark plug also while you are at it.

randallt, I started using Amsoil in about '92,in my Strikemaster Mag III. I had a 86 or 87 model year, I believe. Just got fed up with all the different oil/gas mix cans in the garage and thought I'd check it out the claims. Never looked back! No goo splattered on the house walls, I don't smell like I've been standing behind a poorly tuned Chevy with bad valves after a day of fishing. grin.gif And the best part is, I ONLY have 1 mix can in the garage for my auger, string trimmer, Stihl chain saw and leaf blower. They all seem to run cleaner, have more power, and start easier. BUT, YES you do still need to vent the house while you cut your holes! It's still carbon monoxide. BTW, IF you do try Amsoil, before you run all the old oil/fuel mix out, hold a white kleenex in front of the muffler. Give the auger the nuts and look at the kleenex, that's the stuff you'ld be wiping off your house walls. AFTER you switch to the Amsoil, run a tank or two through, to clean out the power robbing, carbon build-up in your engine and then do the same test. You will NOT believe the difference! Phred52

Not sure what else I can add that these other guys haven't talked about. I've been running Amsoil Sabre Professional mixed 100:1 in my 5 year old Lazer Mag Xpress and I experience what these other guys have said.

- No Smoke

- Easier Starting

- No Oil Residue spitting or dripping from muffler

Good Stuff!

If you contact "the oilman" (a sponsor on FM) he'll get you set up in short order. The Amsoil you want for the augers is the Saber Professional 100:1 Pre-mix. It's available in 1.5 oz pillow packs that mix with with a gallon of gas for the 100:1. If you're leary about 100:1, start out with 80:1. Won't take long though you'll be at 100:1. I was just out woodcutting today, I ran 4 tanks of fuel through the saw (at 100:1) and I felled and cut up 4- 60' ash trees, 20"+ diameter. Saw never sputtered. You're really gonna like Amsoil! I got some Interceptor Amsoil for my auger, mixed it 80:1, about and ran two tanks through, with out any problems. I see from previous posts that people are using another kind of Amsoil. My questions is, Am I going to hurt anything by using the Interceptor or is that ok?

Thanks.

Just got a new auger myself and called the oilman with that question, he said to mix 50 to 1 for the first couple of tanks and then you can go to 80 or 100 to 1 whichever one you are comfortable with. I run 100 to 1 in my 9 year old Lazer mag and it runs really well.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
