how do u lock it? i haven't tried that yet but i haven't needed to either.

i just drill down and give her gas on the way back out to clean my holes and never get stuck doin it like that...i can drill 50 holes and not even scoop them and fish away.

p.s...i re-drilled some holes with my nils yesterday and i don't think i like that idea much.

Friend of my buddy was having auger problems yesterday, he asked if I would punch a few holes for them. After drilling his holes his comment was WOW that things fast, I'd still be on the first hole. The other guy out buy us had an old Jiffy, I drilled our 5 holes to his 1 also got the WOW comment from him as well is how quiet it is. Both asked if it was a 4 stroke since neither had heard of the Tanaka motors and surprised when I told them it was a 2 stroke.

I think slush was the problem yesterday causing the blade to get stuck, and maybe a little operator error. Most the problems were in the first 1/4 of the hole but after a couple tries I got it figured out. Can't wait for 2 feet of ice to drill through.

I have a strikemaster thats 16 years old starts every time and replaced blades only once and never gets stuck when drilling holes. Strikemaster is the best!

honestly the strikemaster is a great auger...i owned one for a long time and alot of my friends have to...i stepped out of the box this season and got a nils....every single person that has seen me use it or have used it all say WHOA.

one of my buddies thats just getting into ice fishing more this season decided to get a lazer mag and save a few extra bucks which is ok since thats a real nice auger to...but after we've been fishing together the last handful of times he's kickin himself for not getting the nils.

Hey guys--I bought a nils last year and LOVE it. As mentioned in other posts everyone who has used it has said wow. One issue that I still can't figure out is how to keep the @$%#ing blade cover on there. It falls off alot during transport and I am going to get a ripped shack cover or a dinged blade soon. What am I doing wrong?. Can anyone post a picture of how a correctly installed cover looks(where the straps go) or try to explain how the cover goes on correctly.

thanks

jeff

I've never had issues with it falling off. There is definitely a right way and a wrong way to get it on the blades. Really there are only two ways it can go on there. I've had more issues getting it off as the blades do cut into it and it sticks a bit.

Amen to that dtro, I think the engineer who made it liked practical jokes---I wish I would have paid attention to how it was installed when I pulled it out of the box. It shouldn't be this hard especially putting it on when its below zero with frozen hands. The rubber is really chopped up from trying different patterns with the straps

I hope someone has a picture....or I WILL be doing some modifications

When I first got My nils this year I looked at that cover and I thought right away I was going to have a problem with it but so far its been staying on maybe because I am more cautious with it.

Funny thing was I went to gander to buy one of those sleeves but they didn't have any but they did have a nice canvas bag for an auger, pretty slick too. Bought it, got home to put auger in it and er oh the bag was to short I spaced the nils is longer than normal. So don't buy that bag It don't fit.

If it works why fix it? Not trying to be smart but with amsoil saber or any of the synthetic oils now a days probibly not much differance in emissions and I think the new moters are designed for even less emisions.

The only benny of a 4 now a days is you dont have to mix the oil or the cost of the oil. With the 4 stroke dont you have to be carefull how you lay it down so you dont leak oil.

I think its smart to perfect one and go with it rather than offer many other lines to choose from.

Let me throw this out there.

Would all of you guys still talk so highly of the NILS if you didn't sell them on this site or sponsored by them??

Would it be the same talk if JIFFY or STRIKEMASTER was sold on this side and sponsored????

Just something to think about, not trying to start anything.

If you would ever like to, let me know. I'm always happy to back up my recommendations. I understand the skepticism, there are a lot of promises out there.

I would have taken you up on the offer before Sat, but I already purchased a SM this weekend

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
