New Lure Purchases

Recommended Posts

I was so excited to get home and see a box sitting on the door step from Rollie & Helen's! Inside was a new XXX Marabou bucktail, a 10" Hawg Seeker, a 16" Flasher, a Fudally Candy Spin, a Jig A Beast and a Boogerman Spinnnerbait. What a super day! Can't wait to get that XXX thumping in the water with my new Abu Garcia 7000 HSN. Anyone else pick up anything neat the past few weeks?

Keep buying and buying and buying.........I am in Iraq until July of this year and I bought over 65 lures in the last year. Can't even use them yet, but I sure can't wait to get on the water. My wife thinks I need to seek counseling for my "lure buying obsession", as she likes to call it. I call it just plain fun!!!! laugh.gif

your not the only one, every time I come home with new lures, she says "how many lures do you need, don't ever complain about the cloths I buy, you don't catch very many of those things anyway, how many lures do you need?" even the free ones that I get, she still complains it doesn't matter. grin.gif

Oh well,

John

Divorce her , just kidding ( kind of ) . I went to my MI meeting last week and we discussed , of all thing , lures . Cost mainly . The guy who led the talk was very knowledgeable and what an eye opener . Take a lure - for example a top raider . They cost roughly 23.00 bucks to buy . They cost about 2.80 to make , not including labor of course but if you not doing anything but waiting for fishing season to open the labor fee insn't justifiable . There are shops that sell all the same stuff to guys ( like me soon ) that sell to the tackle co.s . I just bought a 15' Bucktail , nice as it was I paid 15.00 more than it cost to make . The biggest investment is the wire wrapping machine but over a season that will be made up . And don't let your self be told that its rocket science to make these lures . A little imagination and some time and you are a lure maker . If anyone tells you different its because the money you'll save is money they can't make off you . One final example the presenter showed us was a 90.00 lure he bought at a show . 8.90 it cost to make . Its worth the time to check it out .

MUSKY18...I'll throw a few extra casts for you this weekend since you are fighting on the other side of the planet for us. Hopefully this time next year you'll be getting ready to hit a MN lake.

Take care, and thank you!

also there is alot more than just having a couple bucks into a lure when you are running a business. I have a ton of respect for the guys that make a quality lure and sell are able to sell it.

making lures for yourself is one thing but selling them is another...

I was kidding bout the divorce thing , the fact your a musky man and she hasn't left you yet is testament that she is a good woman . And the lures , take a look at them . I didn't realize their simplicity until I looked closer . I don't minimize the lures I have bought or the people that made them , I just am pretty sure with a little practice I'll do just as well . You never can tell , maybe one day a lure I make will be the " it " lure to have .

I figured out that about half of my "obessesion" with lures is that fact that I visit the boards!!!! A post pops up and then I think.......Geez, maybe I need one of them! Example...I just read a post about Hellhounds the other day, and just ordered 2 of them. Plus, I am trying to get every color of Suick made in the 9" weighted variety. Think I only have about 15 of them right now, but it is a start!

The wife is super about the whole lure thing. Mainly jokes about it with me. I was a musky addict when we met and she accepts that I am warped when it comes to these fish. blush.gifgrin.gif

Gander here in duluth was clearancing out some muskie lures as we downsized the fishing department. I took full advantage of it and picked up...

topraider

2bulldogs

4-9" suicks

4 buck tails

2 new jerk baits

2 jakes

1 depth raider

For the price I could not pass it up.

Take Care Guys and Good Luck Fishing!

I have not bought as much this year as in the past but have replaced a bulldawg in a walleye pattern, and also a glo tailed, another hellhound in the hot bellied whitefish pattern, a couple of C.J.'s spinnerbaits and a 1/2 dozen dbl. 10's. I'm sure theres more to come!

Kevin's Musky Blings and Boo Blings are definitely going to be a huge producer in 2007 for those that get their hands on them. 2006 was the year of the Double Cowgirl. 2007 would probably be the year of the Blings if there were enough out there.

MR,

Take a look! I'm running low. But I've asked Kevin to send me some more, including some for my own box!

If you saw Kevin's baits at the winter shows (I know you did MR, as evidenced by your Bling that you brought to the pool), his show baits are actually slightly different than what he's now making. At the shows he had 3 oz heads. The ones he's making now have 2 oz minnow heads and he's using living rubber for the skirt. The new look is awesome. I'm a huge fan!

Was just in Gander, mag shallow bulldawgs are on sale for $9.99, good chance to stock up on a few.

FYI If you pick these up I'd STRONGLY recommend replacing the split rings.
