Butts on the Ice

McGurk

Recommended Posts

I cannot stand seeing people flick cigarette's out of moving cars, but I go FLIPPING BANANAS mad.gifmad.gifmad.gif when I see a whole pack of butts in a pile on the ice!!! REALLY, is it that friggin' hard to bring an empty soup can with you??? Please? I'll even leave a bag of can's by an access if you use them. Smoke all you want; I don't care. Just say the word, and I'll pull 'em out of the recycling, rinse them out, and leave them there for you. Seed shells I can handle, BUTTS I CAN NOT!

I have to admit, I was one of those that put the butt out oo the ice and then left it there until I started reading these forums and figured out how bad it really looks. Now the bottom of my 5 gal bucket is being used for lots of things. Even the shells.

I'm sorry but I have to chime in. One afternoon sitting at a stop sign a young girl was smoking and talking on her cell. She was smoking in the car and decised to throw the cig out the window and I was half tempted to get out of my vehicle and walk over and push it threw the crack of her window onto her lap.

What kept me from doing that was a short stop light but next time I just might do it. Nother words if I see some one polute "our" environment that I guess I have a right to throw your butts back into your environment, i.e. your car seat.

I never really thought of it when I was younger but as I got older my friend always was picking his up and it got me to thinking and noticing when I am out fishing or hiking at how many butts you see on the shore or floating in the water!!! Now after I am done I roll the remaining tobacco out of the cig and put the filter and remaining paper in my pocket and empty at the garbage can with all the rest of my trash. Easy and clean!!!

Amen to that!

I don't care if you smoke, thats your choice. I'm not sure what gives "most" folks who smoke the right to litter all over the place- the side of the highway, the lake, the street, the sidewalk. Yuck!

I'm surprised we don't have more grass & forest fires than we do with the amount of lit smokes getting tossed out of car windows on the highway.

Please be considerate of others and pick up after yourself.

While we're talking about, white plastic caps found on 1lb propane tanks are also notorious for littering our lakes in the winter.

I agree, this also drives me nuts. I have seen a time or two also when someone has emptied their entire ash tray at a stop light. I have also seen a whole mess of beer bottles out on the lake. I think these are the same people that are too lazy to put their shopping cart in the coral or bring it back into the store. I think if you say something to them you are going to get the "How dare you confront me" attitude. I don't think they would have much accountability for their actions.

I was thinking about this same thing this weekend while fishing on Mille Lacs. I came up to a spot to fish and found at least 20-30 butts lying on the ice. I was good enough to take the time to pick these butts up with my ice scooper. Cmon people lets have a little common courtesy towards this great earth that god has put us on!!!

Just a note to smokers.

If I see you dump your butts into a parking lot don't be surprised to see them in a nice neat pile on your windshield when you get back. Or packed nicely into the flap covering your gas tank. Oh and don't leave your window open a crack this might give me another place to put them.

Next time I see this I just might have the gull to do it to that smoker. My luck he/she will have mace or worse a gun and think that I'm a car-jacker. Can't you see it now on the 5pm news man in Brainerd tried to car-jack some mother w/kids all because of a cig butt. I just might have to rethink this strategy a little more but will seriously consider it if the conditions are right. He,he

I'm not in favor of being a nark. but if your are ruining our enviromentI will be reporting you. Like stated above it doesn't need to be cig buts only. It could be empty propane bottles, shotgun shells, propane caps, blocks of lumber from our fish houses etc candy and food wrappers etc. all of this is littering.

As most cell phones have cameras just start taking photo's of their shelter license and the offending litter. A quick little call to the local C.O. or police dept. will adress the problem properly and in a safe manner for all. I understand that occasionally things will be innocently left behind and am not out to get everyone. However if we make it known that we are going to be the eyes and ears for our furry, feathered, or finned friends just maybe one less devient will do their deed.

Its the most disgusting habit and thought process be it on a lake or anywhere.

I just cleaned the dock area this past week end at my place of employment and the rear entrance to the building. Being a smoke free work place is bad enough not following policy.

Two new employees (heavy smokers) were hired five months ago and in that period of time there was half of a 5 gallon bucket of butts I cleaned up with various cigarette wrappings as well. Between the dock doors, entrance, and grass the stuff was everywhere. mad.gif

Come on guys...if you smoke, just throw the butts in the hole and cover them with snow! It helps them biodegrade way faster!!!!!

(Kidding...put them in a pop can, I can't stand it either. When I fly fish I put them in a 35mm film canister and deposit them in the trash at a later time)

I had a smoking pig flick one out their window and it landed on the hood of my truck. I wonder how hard that lugie was to scrape off their roof after it baked in the sun all day.

I laughed pretty hard when I read this.

It bothers me that people would throw them anywhere other than the trash.

I was fishin on rainy lake and this houseboat full of nice lookin young ladies who were all partying (a guide was navigating) pulled up beside side me, a couple of the girls asked if I wanted to have a beer. so I said sure and tied my boat to their boat and hopped on bored a little while later some of the ladies got naked and took a dip in the lake. Not all buts on the lake are bad buts.

People also don't realize that nicotine in very small trace quantities is very harmful to aquatic organisms and leaving so much as a cigarette butt in the water can kill more things than you imagine. Plus it's unsightly.

ummmmmmm- we DON'T know that

I agree on the littering aspect, but what I can't stand is all of the self righteous non smoking pigs that offend me with their snide comments. I would like to quit but the things are quite powerful. Just thank God if you never started or were able to quit. In the mean time, try not to treat every smoker like a piece of s**t

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
