... with tags left for archery are headed out this weekend or planning to hunt soon. Our gun season pretty much ended on Sunday this past week with lots of drives and guys unloading at everything they saw. : P I'm thiking about going tomorrow morning for a few hours but not sure if its worth it. Haven't seen much on my trail cams this week and thinking I might want to give it another week or two to calm down further.

I still have all my tags. grrrrr......

Anyway, I know I'm hunting the weekend of 12-9 in the metro. I'm not real excited about it though. Its a special hunt and the only reason we're hunting in Dec. is cause we didn't get any during the first 2 trys.

I know of a monster buck that made it through rifle season where I go, but I'm not sure when I'll get back up there.

I have all my tags unfilled. Passed on a couple marginal shots during bow season and messed up an encounter with a big 10 pointer. Rifle season was just plain quiet for us.

Anyway, I'll be trying to find deer this coming weekend! Something to poke an arrow through and fill the freezer with venison.

I still have my archery tag. I will plan on taking as many does as I can from now out. Hunted this last weekend and honestly it was the best evening on stand thus far. Between 3 guys we had 3 shooter bucks 60-75 yrds from various stands on opposite sides of the field edges. 2 of the bucks were together and could be seen for 45 mins. My buddy forgot his grunt call so no attempt was made to get them closer. Both were 150" with the biggest probably pushing the 160" mark. The other buck we spoted before heading out with binos and it was easily 130" and very respectable but small compared to the giant we saw.

I have never been a big fan of hunting during gun season (3B) but the property we hunt is not being gun hunted and has become a safe haven for deer to move freely to feed etc...

At this point I am really glad I spent the summer with my buddies cleaning out the farmers old barn for permission to hunt the land exclusively. It wasn't so fun at the time but now I am good friends with the family and get to hunt a prime piece of SE Minnesotas finest hunting land. The land has a huge honey suckle problem, but we make it work, and have offered to take care of a majority of that next spring. We are leaving some for security thickets for the deer however.

Unfortunately I am out of tags. I bought the All-season licens and used an antlerless tag on an archery doe (first deer with a bow) and then shot another doe and a 10-point buck with my shotgun.

It was a really great season. I saw more deer than I ever have. Learned alot from bow hunting too.

Relatives will be around Thur and Fri but I may make it out Sat or Sunday, would be interesting to see how many muzzleloader blasts I hear. Debating on a morning or afternoon hunt, sleeping in one day and having a leisurely breakfast with the wife sounds appealing.... After eating too much turkey, a long pheasant hunt and some exercise is also apppealing....

Reminder to archery hunters, muzzleloading season opens up on Sat, blaze orange clothes are required.

Slow archery season for me, but a very good firearm season. Still have a couple tags left, but won't go out until Saturday with the muzzle loader. I'll probably bow hunt a couple more times in MN after that & hope to head back to WI with the bow for a long weekend one of the last two. It sure would be nice to get that EAB sticker going into next year.
