Lake Cenaiko Thread

You can park along the roadway which parralels the lake and walk 10ft to shore. There is also a parking lot which is within feet of shore as well. So you can effectively get to any point on the "lake" in a very short distance.

they plow down around the south end and up back up the other side about half ways. Leech the drag to the lake is a cake walk. Its up hill on the way back to the truck!

I was refering that if someone had to enter off the side street, they'd have to haul all their gear down the hill and then back up when coming home.

I have a question for whoever has an answer. I was out there today for a few hours before sunset. Didn't catch anything but that's beside the point. I left about 20 minutes after sunset because the park technically closes 30 min after sunset. There were still a hand full of houses out there, on of which just came out before I left. Can you fish later into the night without getting hassled? Are the park hour rules a little looser in the winter?

The Park Rangers will usually point their headlights at you and shout you off the lake when it is time to close. Usually. Depends who is on duty that night.

Slower today, but still got a few nice sized rainbows, again in 5 feet of water. Not many houses on the lake today, maybe a half dozen this morning. Finally got a nicer sized brookie today, every other one so far have been really tiny.

There should be a paybox there. But, more than likely there will be someone there already working.

Good luck and take pictures!!!

There was no one there or any envelopes in the holder at the gate! I only got one little Rainbow but had a few other bites and a few lookers. They bite fast and drop it so if your not ready you can miss them pretty easy. There was only about 8 guys out there and most left a little after noon. Pretty slow day. The only places I seen fish was almost in the brush right off shore. wink

located within coon rapinds dam park. you need a anoka county park anual sticker{25 bucks] or a daily fee at the entry point. you will also need a trout stamp to fish there and no live bait is allowed. you may already know that but just in case. as you enter the park take your first left and follow the road until you see the lake on your right. there is parking available. good luck.

has the bite slowed down yet?

Yep. Most of those eager 10-12 inch fish are gone; I was only out for 2 hours yesterday morning, there was hardly anyone else out there other than 3-4 regulars. I got one brookie, a little bigger than the really small ones they seemed to have stocked, but it was a lot of work, they're biting so light (if at all.) Saw plenty of approaches on my Ice Machine, but very few takes - the brookie was bagged on a 1/16th oz glo green Reef Runner Cicada jig with 3-4 eurolarvae.

For whatever reason, I have not had as much luck with waxies this year, they seem to like the eurolarvae better. Might be because I have been buying my euros from Thorne Bros. this year, I've been able to keep them wriggly & happy for almost two weeks in a larger (the one designed for leeches and crawlers) baitpuck.

I decided to try a little deeper water yesterday, 8 feet, but I still think best bet is sight fishing in 4-5 feet of water on the north beach.

the dnr stocks trout twice a year in cenaiko. once for opener and once prior to ice fishing season opener. now this spring they already have stocked between 1000 and 1500 rainbow yearlings. so i would go early for it's a put and take lake and they dont last long as a rule. there may be some left from the fall stocking.

remember no live bait allowed and you must have a trout stamp along with your licence to fish this lake at any time even for non trout species. good luck.

park hours are 5am to 10pm. if you dont have an anual pass [$25] you have to get a pass slip by the gate. how busy it will be i dont know. most go after walleys but i'm sure there will be some there. use light spin gear. no bigger than 6 lb. test. small spinners like size o or no. 1 mepps in silver of gold, small spoons in the same color. bobber and worms will work fine this time of the year. trout will be shallow for the most part. small panfish baits like a flu flu with a waxie or a couple of eurolarva would work under a bobber worked in slowly as if your fishing for crappies. have fun and good luck.

Think i started fishing Cenaiko around mid June last year. I caught Carp, Bullheads, sunnies, small SmallMouth Bass and no trout.Threw everything Reinhard mentioned. I guess it gets alot of pressure the first few weeks and then its down to luck. I tried early and late.

Its pretty much first come first serve with stocked trout lakes.
