Lake Cenaiko Thread

this is what they planted in 2009: brown trout 287, rainbow 75 adult and 2,445 yearling rainbows. no brook trout that year. i suspect a similiar stocking this year. the adult rainbow sometimes can be 5 pounds or more but usualy less. there are also crappie, sunfish, smallmouth, and some carp in there. my two cents worth is fish shallow with tear drop panfish jigs with euro larva. fish shallow enough so you can see the bottom. fun to see them swim by, and if they are not interested while you are jiggling the euro larva drop the bait on the bottom, for they will sometimes pick the bait off the bottom. good luck.

Planning on taking the kids out. Are we able to enter the park if it's not open yet?

My guess is that they will open the gates around 5:30 or 6 AM. Ordinarily, they haven't been locking the gates, but this weekend is a big moneymaker for the park, and they want to collect all the permit fees they can. One can certainly walk onto the park before the gates are open, but it is a long walk to the lake, especially if you are hauling gear, and the DNR will be out there in force to make sure no one is fishing prior to 6:50 AM (of course, there always is a few...2 years ago, the COs set up in a pop up right in the middle of the lake, and wrote so many citations they actually ran out of paper citations by 8 AM.)

I was told by th fisheries dept that the quantities that they stock the lake with depends on the water level and quality. With the water level up I was hoping that they would stock the lake with levels closer to 2001 levels.

In 2001 they were closer to 5000 yearling rainbows, 500 adult brookies, and they even put in about a dozen lakers.

I got out later than I wanted today about 7:15. Lots of guys already set up and catching fish. By the time we got set up after first light the bite really slowed down. We managed to get one rainbow and some small bass. How did everyone else do???

We got 5 between the 2 of us--missed another 3-4. all rainbows. We fished til 10am--they seemed to have shut off by then.

Where did you guys fished that got their limits?

We stuck to the north center part of the lake in about 12 feet then we moved closer to the edge but by that time I think the bite was over. Went back in hopes of an evening bite and only got one off the NW edge in about 10ft.

I certainly had serveral bite, but only landed one 13" rainbow. After about 10am, we headed home because the bite had died. We were at about 13 FOW. This was my first time out at cenaiko ice fishing. There were a lot people out on openner. Way more than what I expected. I wonder what was the earliest folks got out there. I got there around 6am and tons folks were already set up. Next years openner, I'm going to be there over night....lol.

X2 on where folks were at that limited out?

Shallow, shallow, shallow. I went right to a spot on the north end that I've fished the last couple of seasons, got a few fish at 10 feet but getting to 6 feet or less (I ended up right next to the north beach, and I was still in 5 + feet of water) was where most of the action seemed to be.

Nice to see brookies back in the lake...

First time I tried out one of those little Reef Runner Cicada blades for ice fishing, the little 1/16th oz. gold & green one...worked great with eurolarvae, gonna have to pick me up some more of those.

The first spot we were in 12 feet of water and catching fish between 6-10ft. What was really fun was "sight fishing" for them--the spot we where at you could see 10-15ft down and you could see the trout come up and bite the bait. Alot of the trout had a very light bite and if I wasn't watching I wouldn't have known they took the bait.

Just curious when you were in that depth 5-10ft were you fishing just above the weeds if any or just below the ice a few feet? I saw you close to the North spot too--didn't know it was you but saw some people right there. It was a fun time. In that first picture you took we would have been just to the left of the picture frame.

Got back out after a few years of taking a break from fishing there. We did great, caught mostly Brook Trout and 2 nice sized Rainbows, most were keepers. We were in about 6 ft of water. Had a 5 person group. What's the limit per person? Neighboor said 2.

That's me sitting on the bucket in that second picture. It was my first year out there. Fished for about 3 hours. I only caught one 11" rainbow at sunup.

Me and my buddy are thinking about going out on Friday around 12:30.

What are you guys using for bait? Single hooks with larvaes? Or treble hooked jigs with a waxie? I might go out again this weekend with the kids. It was fun and it would've been better if we were able to catch more. Pics would be nice of your jigs/bait.

5 dollar car pass for a day or 25 for a year. It is walk on only. The park is open from 5 AM to 1/2 hour after sunset.

How far do you have to drag you house from the parking lot if you bring one? Thanks for the info.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
