best hook for wacky rig

I bought me some of these Gamakatsu finess/weedless hooks! They look like they will be great.. but Haven't tried them yet.. anxious to finally have a wacky rig that is more 'weedless' then the exposed hook.

The hooks mentioned are most likely the choice of the majority. I prefer the "Owner" number three hooks for the 5" senko. If I go smaller and use the 4" I will downsize to a number 2.

I like the strength and sharpness of the Owner hooks but Gamo's are great as well.

I on occassion will use the Owner wide gap

O.K. on the advice of the above highly respected, by me anyway, posters, I sent for a bunch of Gamakatsu Finesse Weedless hooks in sizes 2, 1, and 1/0.

Can't wait to get them and give them a shot in the weeds.

Any other suggestions on fishing them?

I'll report back on my opinion.

I haven't tried wacky rigging that much because of the exposed hook and weeds. So I took Dietz's advice and bought some gamagatzu's weedless hook 2/0. What a difference, in my opinion. Was out today and caught about 7-8 bass. The only thing was that they were all small. I think weight totaled about 5-6 lbs. frown.gif But it was fun. laugh.gif I even caught a big pumkinseed that hit the wacky rig. All the hook sets were like circle hooks...all around the lips. Nothing deep. Thanks to all for providing good info. smile.gif What's the best way to use weights for this rig? Inserting nails into the worm or adding sinker to line? Or is it best not to use any weight and let it fall naturally.

Has anyone noticed that using a weedless hook for wacky rigged senkos affects hooking success? I am pretty sure I am just losing more fish than when I was using open hooks. Less weeds, but less fish as well.

Also! Now that I look.. mine are NOT the Gamakatsu brand and they have WIRE weed gaurd.. where can one find the Gamakatsu brand with the mono guard? Might help.

I lost some nice bass the other day using a weedless hook. After a few misses I found that the wire weed guard was catching on the barb of my hook. I just bent the wire back into the appropriate shape. I keep a close eye on this now so it doesen't happen anymore.

The reason I went to the Gammie mono guard was because I did loose fish on the metal guard.. For some reason, some times the wire guard would catch on the barb and not hook the fish as well...

The gammie hook rocks.

Sly- I get mine at gander.

I went to Joe's and Fleet Farm.. both had the brand, but not the hook. I'll have to make a run to Gander! I wonder if the dinky one by Maplewood mall (my closest) has them.

Good luck with maple wood gander. It is going down hill since they started opening all these huge ones. Saw my depth finder there for 170, when I paid 130 at Dick's, and the other gander had it priced at 150, I don't understand that...

well Dick's is new so it could have been on sale and they also get sport equipment so that raises the profit lowering the prices, i get a lot of my tackle at Dick's because it is super close to my house
