LaZyDayZ
In Memory of Our Nation’s Fallen Heroes Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who courageously stepped forward when our nation asked for their service. In return, many of our beloved fathers, mothers, family, and dear friends made the ultimate sacrifice - their lives - in the protection of our freedoms. Their devotion, commitment, and triumphs have since been forgotten by too many of us. On this Memorial Day, remember the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for one reason . . . so that we can all have the opportunity to LIVE THE AMERICAN DREAM! Thank you all for your service and also to the families for your sacrifice. God Bless you all!!

I think many of us (myself included) think of Memorial Day as a Monday off of work. We all should take a moment on Monday to reflect what kind of sacrifices our young men and women make for all of us!Thank you vets! God Bless all of you and your families! SUNNYD
Thank you for reminding us all that this is not just a day off work. On this day I will especially remember my grandfather who passed away 10 years ago. The stubborn Norwiegen rock of a man who flew 40 combat missions in WWII over Europe as a flight engineer. Returning home started farming and family. I was the only grandchild (oldest grandson) who had the opportunity to hunt with this great man and I will treasure those memories the rest of my life...Still the best shot I have EVER seen and that is when he was in his 60's! Without him my father (Vietnam Vet) and I would not be here. Let us honor all Vets on this Memorial Day...Its amazing what a simple thank you will do!Take care! The_Duckslayer
First of... let me say You are WELCOME! I proudly served 20 years in the USAF and have lived the life of a GI. This one will be a hard one for me. Lots of firsts this year and this will be the first Memorial day without dad. He was a proud Korean War Vet and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. I salute ALL that stand the line that I stood protecting our freedoms! The saying "Freedom is not free" is VERY true. How does that go? If you are reading this thank a teacher, if you are reading it in english thank a Vet! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

Eric Wettschreck
Never have so many owed so much to so few.I'm not much of a touchy feeley guy but the Memorial Day services put a lump in my throat. Having served for 10 years I feel lucky to be able to live the life of an American. There's just too many that didn't come home, and shame on us if we ever forget.BT1
eyepatrol
I'll be spending part of my weekend with two former military men. One is my brother who didn't serve in a war, but did spend some time over in Italy (a communist country I belive). He was in the Guards and just got his 6 years in last February and decided to get out for family reasons. Thank goodness I say, 'cause his unit is in Iraq right now for 18 months! The other person is my grandpa who is a WWII Vet. He spent time in France, Belgium and Germany (among going through other countries). I always enjoy talking to him about his time and experiences over there. One time when I was young I asked if he ever had to defend himself with his rifle (so to speak)....conversation ended then and there. After returning from the war, he never ever picked up another gun and fired one. Pretty explanatory I guess. I'm just glad my grandpa made it back, otherwise I wouldn't be here today (dad was born in 1948). I'm very proud of both of them and of all who serve our country!!! I am in southern MN area in Lonsdale. I was thinking the opposite of you. I did not think that there were many posts in this section at all. Guess it is more important to grumble about slow drivers than it is to thank a Vet. Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
Mr. Pike1
I never served in the military but my father was a proud member of the Navy. I remember once as a young man seeing my fathers face lite of up with anger, eyes well up with tears, and then smile as I saw the American flag being burned on TV. I was to yound at the time to fully understand the full meaning of this moment. We live in a great country where men and women have given the ultimate sacrice to allow all of the freedoms we all enjoy. This sacrifice allows for the freedom of speech and includes allowing one to burn or desicrate the symbol of our great country. I now fully understand the emotion my father felt at this time and fully appreciate the the joy and pain that freedom can bring to a person and a country.I am proud to be an American and Thank everyone who has served in the armed forces to protect these freedoms !!!!!!! lanyard
To follow Duckslayer's line: you're welcome. The rest is obvious:Salute the flag, don't burn it.Give your seat to a person in uniform (they likely won't accept, unless it's on a plane HOME!)Make your kids (especially under 16) introduce themselves to someone in uniform, have them say thank you.Know the rank difference between enlisted and officer. No difference in treatment, just conversation.Study geography- know where Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, etc. are and their significant cities. On Sunday in church, share peace silently with those not present.Consider that enlistment is a necessity in growth and developemnt, including your children. To all before, during and after my stint on this earth, thank you. V-12 Merlin
Thanks to all veterans. It's been said already, but freedom isn't free and we are deeply indebted to those who have given theirs so that we may have ours.
