Down Deep
A couple of years ago we started fishing off the dock with slipbobbers at midnight. We've done very well and have the opening day fish fry in the bag by 3:00 AM. This has now become a tradition. Who elso starts at midnight? yourresort
I would say all but a few of our guests are out on Otter Tail at midnight. Actually in years past, many would go down to the Otter Tail River where it leaves the Lake at midnight, but this year the water is closer to 60 degrees and the walleye are out in the big water. I hope all get out on the lake and enjoy. It should be a good one!
eyepatrol
Won't be at midnight, but at about 4:00a.m. First time ever trying it this early, so I'm not sure what to expect.
Bungfodders
We go out at midnight as well we troll with perch floating raps in the shallow water and do very well. It can be tough for a first timer getting tangled on everything and casting in the dark is a no no, hard to tell when your line is hooked on the Rap and causes a major twist so just dropping into the water and releasing line as you go is the best option. Mistermojo
Amen to trolling the floaters at night, it's only way to fly, not to mention much more fun than wondering if that was a tap tap tap on your line or just a weed?
Ole #1
I'll be on the dock at midnight with a light up slip bobber. What's better then sitting on the dock with a beer, full moon and fishing buddies, and then that light disapears. Is it Friday yet?
jwhjr
I'll be out on the dock at midnight with my kids (if they can stay up that long...) I second the floating perch rapala, I have good luck with them on opener.
wayne123
I never have but am considering it because of the full moon. I am lucky if I have the cabin opened up, pump primed, dock and boat in the water by midnight. In Hibbing the full moon will occur on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at 1:51 a.m.

CatManLee
I have never been out at midnight for opener, but I am this year. I will be one of many on Upper Red Lake and I think the late night bite will be pretty good.

Northlander
I may go out at midnight. One of my favorite spots is only 45 yards from the campsite Im at every year. If not I will be up at 4-4:30 am and hitting the water after sitting by the warm fire for a bit with some hot coffee.

Eye Slayer
Bungfodders, how deep is the water you troll at night? I am thinking that might be a good option up north - that or the bobber off the dock with a koozie and brewskie...

waltinader
Im always out at midnight. Less people out and not as much boat traffic than when 5 or 6 o'clock rolls around.

flashfisher
I've been out at midnight about 10 years now, and doing it again this year. My buddy and I have never had much luck, but we have a good time. A thermous of coffee, a few brewskis, some munchies and away we go. We are hoping to have good luck this year. We are both honing our skills better now, so we might have a chance. Good luck all, I'm about to bolt from work soon to hit the road. I'm chomping at the bit!
