camera flash (jig charger)

You think they are better than the taser lights or other blue l.e.d. lights? Just wondering as I have never used one. I know my grandpa has one that he uses but I thought the little lights were more popular?

I was using an old camera flash, the ones that mount to the top of the camera. They work great, until a buddy kicked it down a hole last season. I'm still in search of a cheap flash. Plus it was pretty fun to blind the buddies with.

Go to a place that processes film and you can get a used disposable camera for a quarter. They use AAA batteries. You just have to break open the back to get to the advancer, a little white wheel and there you go. A lure charger very cheap.

I used to use a camera flash. They used to sell real cheap ones at bait shops even. But really I think the led lights work better. and they last longer with out replqacing batteries

I agree that the camera flash is a better option then an LED or taser light. The Camera Flash is a much more intense light that is given to the glow paint. I think it charges the glow paint better and with that, allows the lure to glow longer and brighter.

The taser does activate the glow a little bit, but not as much as a camera flash.

I have tried the camera flash trick but I still don't think it glows brighter or longer than a luxeon emited led flashlight. I have tested this and it seems like the luxeon led light held a brighter and longer glow. Glow paint actually works better when it gets a few seconds of charge. Maybe when I see see fellow FMer's I will demostrate it for you guys.

I did some experimenting over the summer with different sources to charge glo paints. The temperature of the jig itself is a factor in how well the jig will receive light from any source.

Sunlight is by far and away the best source of charging light, but when the glo jigs really shine( I know, the pun) is when the sun isn't shining. Next comes the camera flash, then the led. One thing a person can do to deepen the charge is hit the jig with the camera flash and then force it with an led for a couple seconds extra. I'm not that particular and just shoot them with the flash, but I do definitely take some time to get that jig warmed up good if I am concerned about a deep charge.

I have had the Luhr-Jensen Power Flash for quite a few years now and all you need is a couple AA batteries and away you go. Bright light, make sure you cup the jig in your hand before flashing it's that bright.

msm...

turn the units power on and wait for the indicator light to come on. When you get the go light, just press the small button located near the shoe where it mounts to the camera, but do not look at the flash when you push it....point the flash away from your face.

I posted this before, but I took four small squares of cardboard, taped them together to form a rectangular cylinder, if you will. Then I taped that to the camera flash. I basically makes a little box with the actual flash part as the bottom, and no top on the box. Then I reinforced the whole thing with foil backed duct tape. Drop the lure in, put you hand over the top of the box and flash away. That foil lining "bounces" the light around in there like crazy. I used to use little LED tazer lights, but this system works 10 time better. Lures glow brighter and much longer. JH

We used to just wrap tin foil around the flash with the reflective side in and a small opening at the top. Drop the jig in the hole and zap it. Really did the job without blinding anyone.

Now I just used a tazer style light as it uses less space and I wear it one a lanyard around my neck with other useful tools(clipper and forceps).

Borch, I'm with you, a lanyard with the Tazer, clippers, and tiny file.

Crappie Tom, read your post a few months ago on jig temperature and glow intensity. I'm developing a line of ice fishing clothing that will allow one to carry a box (or boxes) of glow fishing products (jigs, hooks, spoos, etc.) right next to your body. A great way to keep them warm and toasty for the ultimate glow. LOL

My previous post on this topic ended up in digital outer space. Last year` I used the National Bureau of Standards protocol to see if glow products would glow longer with an LED light or with a camera flash. Frankly, there was no discernable difference!!
