Down to Earth
and a Packer game broke out. 5 turnovers by the QB, lack of Defense,etc.......Looks like the Lions/Packer winner will have week 1 first place all to them selves. Looks like its gonna be a long season for the NFC North.
Finlander
Why does'nt Tice have the gonads to change quarterbacks when you can plainly see Daunte is having a bad day? They change pitchers in baseball when you don't throw strikes! It is'nt rocket science!!!

Granted, pressure is tough, but good QB's make better decisions and take care of the ball. It was easy to be a world beater with Moss in the offense, this year is a reality check for Culpepper. Captain B.R.K
My father in law has been chewing at the bit about Daunte not being a good QB and the Vikes won't be a "team" until he leaves. HUM....I'd say he is right after todays game. My own opinion: I think D.C has game and talented. The drive that M.Williams tipped the pass was clearly a ball that SHOULD HAVE BEEN caught. Everything else, YES I agree, was D.C's fault. The game should have been tied in my eyes and I believe the Vikes would have prevailed had it not been for Moe Williams. They had the momentum at the time.Hopefully next week the offense can be righted!

So you are saying that DC's MVP like season last year was a fluke? That it was only because of Moss. Not a chance. Yes Randy helped, If you gave me five choices for any QB he would always be included in the list. I can guarantee you that Peyton wouldn't have done any better today, cripes the defense was on top of him before the ball was snapped
lawdog
Quote: So you are saying that DC's MVP like season last year was a fluke? That it was only because of Moss. I think it was an exception to his norm of not taking care of the ball properly. He's been EXTREMELY turnover prone his whole career except for last year. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he should have produced big numbers today, but fumbles and int's just shouldn't happen as frequently as this game with a so-called MVP like QB. Oh, and as for what I was saying last year: what I was saying, as soon as Randy got hurt and our offense STUNK until he got back, was that it was so obvious who the cornerstone of our offense was and who occupied two defenders on every play letting the other guys play 10 on 9. Our leading reciever today had 46 yards guys, we are deep with #2 recievers buy no number one reciever, and yes our line is not exceptional, but it wasn't good last year either as it was always make shift with injuries, that's why our running game was not what it was the years before. The Moss trade may well go down as the Hershel deal part deux... And if they are still on here, go back to what I posted when that trade was made and how I thought Moss made our offense work and that this would be a huge test for DC this year. Stratosman
He will be just fine, I think this is excactly what he needed for a reality check, I thint DC was reading too much of the hype written about him and that he has alot to prove without Moss, the offense stunk today in every possible regard. The defense looked good but were on the field too long because of the inability for the offense to sustain a drive. DC had no time to set up in the pocket, I sure hope that Tampa's D-line is that good because if our O-line is that bad it's gonna be a long season, DC needs time to set up in the pocket to be successful. Bobby Bass
One game and I already have had enough, could not have had a better fall day to go fishing 85 out and where am I? watching the Vikes of old screw it up.. So out comes the VCR will tape the games this fall and be where I should be.. out fishing not going to waste a good fall watching the vikes.... Anyone else think that's a better idea? Eric Wettschreck
Watching the game was a bummer. DC had some serious issues. However, I'm not going to call out the dogs after one game. I'll wait and see if DC can get it together. He's been hyped up plenty, let's see if he can live up to it. If no turnover improvements after next game then I say he has problems. On another note, it sure was nice to see a Vikings defense actually be a defense. Not perfect, but a HUGE improvement over the past couple of years. I'm tellin ya, Pat Williams is a defensive line. Doonbuggy
DC clearly played a lousy game, but let's look at a couple of things:1. couldn't run the ball. that always leads to problems.2. it appeared that on the pass to Burleson that was picked off, NB wasn't looking for the ball/ran the wrong route/or thought it was a running play.3. On the fumble it looked like DC wanted to throw out to the flat but nobody was there so he tried to hang on to it.4. Moe should have caught the ball on the last pick5. Wiggins' penalty was a joke on the first TDIt's week 1, let's not get too riled up. My fantasy team played just as poorly. If anything this will make DC work even harder to make up for this game. Anytime the vikes lose all the MN rubes come out of the woodwork. If we had won all the callers would have said how great the defense was and how we gutted out a win.definitely a roller coaster game.DB
Kodiak
should push bennett out the door, and give up a 3rd rounder for ricky williams, miami will take it.
Down to Earth
I'd like to know where Mewelde was. There was one particular play I remember where Bennett ran right up the middle of the pile for like a -2 gain. The outside was open if he only would have bounced it out. I think they need a runner like Moore in the line up right now that can cut back and find the open hole, not run to where the hole should be and if its not there run there anyways. Stratosman
I remember that same play, it's like he was drawn to the biggest pile of humanity, It looked like there were 12 players in a pile and he runs right into them? I don't know why Tice sticks with Bennett, what a moron.
Down to Earth
Also keep in mind that the Vikes are without Linehan this year as well. Did he make that much of a difference? Miami of all teams put up 30+ points yesterday on Denver. It will be interesting to see how Tice handles adversity this year. He was already on edge with reports about RB questions last week. If this team does not make the playoffs he will probably be out. Going to Cincinnati next week, could be an 0-2 start for the Vikes.
Juan Grande
Culpepper did suck yesterday, but it wasn't all his fault. The O-line was terrible as evidence by their 30 yards rushing. Marcus Johnson Corey Withrow couldn't open anything up the middle. The first interception Culpepper threw almost looked like Burleson ran the wrong route or something. It looked like a timing pattern or something and Nate just didn't turn around for the ball. On the bright side, I thought the defense looked good. Aside from that 70 yard run on the last play they were solid. I think i saw more hard hits yesterday than all of last year combined. The linebackers were flying around making plays and Pat Williams had a few big tackles.
MJR
I made it to the game and I tell you what, the best thing the vikes have going for them is they get to play green bay twice.A couple of notes. We now have a punter and a kicker.25 seconds every time Daunte, just keep that in mind. I think that he had 3 issues with that.O-line played terrible.Hovan had a better pass rush than any viking d linemen.Pat Williams is a player.Sharper is a player.Bennet closes his eyes or turns his back to the o-line and runs into them 9 outa 10 times. If the vikes could run a screen that should be the only time Bennet is on the field.Worst game I have seen Daunte play by a long shot.I was expecting the vikes to be better on D, Tampa does not have a good offense, Joey freakin Galloway was tearing them up.Ralph Brown needs to be cut, he does not play much but he has a huge impact when he is in there. We need to make some monumental improvements before the playoffs!! beefman
Guaranteed contracts and contract extensions should be banned from all minnesota sports franchises. james_walleye
I thought the vikings defense looked extremely good myself. The one problem point was the nickel defense. The bucs comleted some big 3rd and longs in their 2 TD drives and all of them were completed on our nickel back, who was either Brian Williams, or Ralph Brown. You didnt see much completed at Winfield or Smoot. And the first TD was over the top of Rod Davis when Cowart went out for a couple plays. So the bucs picked up on a single weakness a couple times and took advantage of it. So we need too see our nickel back situation fixed. But overall the defense looked great too me. They were on the field the whole first half. They held the bucs down in the 2nd half until the offense was able too do something and almost won the game. The sad thing is this is not a good bucs team. Hopefully the o-line can get things together this week and give Dante time. Hopefully the defense can hold down a better bengal offense.
