bigswede
I am looking to get a new laydown blind, and am wondering what opinions are on differant ones. I am looking at the Avery ones and Final approach ones. I am a bigger guy,6'7" with pretty broad shoulders. Any opinions are greatly appreciated. cyberamish
I sold plastic (for the foot pads) to the FA folks and really liked their blinds. I am 6'5" , 260 lbs and had no real issues with their size.
riverrat56
Im looking at purchasing a laydown blind, I am however broke for the most part and can't swing one much over 200 bucks, what would be a good blind? I mostly hunt picked corn and a few cow pastures with ponds in them so im thinking something in a corn feild pattern, Any Ideas?
Farley
Dont get the cornfield pattern, a shadowgrass or 3D pattern will blend in with corn once you lay a few stocks across it. Never used them but the Power Hunter by Avery looks like a good, afordable blind.
brittman
I picked up 2 Power Hunters for about $70 each last December on a close-out sale. I have not used them yet. They seem to be more like a sleeping bag than some of the bigger ( and much more expensive ) blinds.Field goose hunting has become much less of a priority (about 6-10 times / per season) so I will make these things work. snowgoose
Big SwedeI am 6'5 and over 3 biils. I use the Final Approach Legacy blind. They are harder to find and cost a liitle more but are well worth the money. I keep a blind bag behind the seat and have plenty of room for other gear. I don't do well in the guide series blinds. I have to come out of them sideways with my shoulders wasting valuable time.I want to say the legacy is 3 inched higher and 6 inches wider than the guide series. If you go to game fair you will find them. bigswede
Thanks Snowgoose. I was looking at these and was thinking the extra room would be nice. When is Game fair??? I appreciate the responses from all.
snowgoose
Game Fair is Augest 12th - 14th and Augest 19th - 21st. Knutsons on waterfowlers hill usually has them. That is the best prices I have found on them.
simcox282
I built my own for around 65.00 bucks. I have made two dfferent ones --one out of PVC and one out of EMT. THe PVC one is nice and light. The emt one has wheels that attach. The beauty of making them yourself is that you can customize it to the hilt for pattern, length, width, height, etc. Might want to check that out. Duck-o-holic
Riverrat--I paid $149 for a Cabela's lay-down blind last year. I'm extremely happy with it, and would recommend you check them out. I'll probably be picking another one up this summer. Basically 2 for the price of 1.The blind folds up to a backpack, and puts together very easily. Very roomy lengthwise, and has a decent profile heigthwise. Worth comparing to the others!
Rost
I was just in Scheels the other day looking at a few blinds. The hunting mananger told me that Final Approach is going to make a coffin blind for Scheels. He said they were going to sell it for around $150. I bet it turns out to be similar to the Cabelas Interceptor.
Nova
My son has been saving for months and finally got enough for a power hunter by Avery. Nice set up, quick and easy and very light, only 11 pounds and converts to back pack. If I didn't have the Finisher by Avery already I would buy one for myself. Fish'n guy
You know I have really been impressed by the Final Approach blinds myself. Two years ago I purchased an FA Eliminater and liked becuase of all the room in it, but those educated geese later in the season would flare off more times then not because of the higher profile.I sold that and got an FA X-Lander and love it. It sits lower so those smart geese don't flare because of the blind anymore. I have noticed a major difference since last year, and am now getting more birds to commit to the spread. there is still plenty of room to store your gear and they are very comfortable. Nova
I tried my Dad's X-lander last year and the only problem I had with it was the wind would blow the flaps open. Other than that a great blind, but hard to call when you are holding the flaps closed.
mwktrapper
I had a tough time getting used to the X-Landr because the flaps laid right on you. Not much room to call or move around inside the blind. I currently have the FA Pro Guide and SUB. If you want a comfy and spacious blind, I would go with these, but they are not very mobile. I will probably purchase the X-Landr just because of its mobility. Did you all see that FA is coming out with decoys now? They look awesome. Rost
I had the opportunity to actually lay down in several ground blinds at Cabelas the other day. Her is what I found...Cabela's Interceptor- Very comfortable, but no mesh net to cover your face. I also found it interesting that the sales guy at Cabela's told me not to buy it becuase the fabric is too thin and they've ripped a few in the store. $169Avery Finisher- Nice Blind! $250Final Approach Sport Utility- Is also a nice Blind. The only drawback was the bar that goes accross above the knees seemed a bit constricting. $249Avery Power Hunter- Camo sleeping bag- but I can see how nice it would be for short fields $149The Blind that I like the best was the Gooseview (Eliminator)! I liked the angled bar accross the knees, and the zipper at the feet for your dog. $199Does anyone have experience with this blind? I'd like to know before I buy. Thanks! Quackaddict9
Rost- I have never heard of or seen the Gooseview (eliminator) blind before but the word eliminator sounds liek the Final Approach eliminator blind that was selling for $199 at Cabelas and I picked one up there a few days ago for $199. I did a search for Gooseview eliminator and only found 3 types of gooseview blinds nothing with eliminator...
Rost
Sorry-I meant X-Terminator! It is pretty nice!
Bushwacker
I am a huge X-terminator fan. I researched for hours and hours on the internet last fall before I bought mine. I also went to stores and the GameFair and laid in them all. I liked the X-terminator the best. My buddy bought a blind at the Waterfowl weekend last Sunday. He went thinking he would by the Finisher, but he ended up with a X-Terminator. He laid in 6 blinds and picked the Gooseview. He like all of the features of it: Weight Backpack Bungy strapped doors Gun Rest Shell Holders Pockets Room behind seat for storage Zipper flaging doors Zippered bottom-not only for possible dog, but it makes cleaning a lot easier and more--
cmoredrakes
what do you guys think of the Power hunter by Avery? Heard from a buddy the finishers didn't work out so good. He requested a Power Hunter. It's about $75 cheaper than the finisher, but the saying goes "you always get what you pay for". looking to get one or the other before the season opens. {I'm so pumped }
