Kylersk-

Insurance, insurance, insurance. I call nextel after dropping my phone in the river(I did recover it). Even if you recovered it, you have to tell them that you didn't, or they won't cover water damage. Drop it back down the hole(less battery) if you have to in order not to lie that it was not recovered. They will send you another phone, if not you are screwed.

Murphy's Law.....

I can't even count how many things I've lost down the hole, including a 6foot long tent pole to hold my shelter open. Hit the floor and down the hole without touching the edges of the hole. A perfect swish.

My condolences on your loss.

Mine fell out of my shirt pocket when I leaned over the front of the boat to hook it to the trailer winch after I drove it on. I did actually find it and it did work for a while after that but the screen kept fogging up! Ended up having to buy another. I keep the thing in my pants pocket now! One of those things that no matter how hard ya tried you could not do again! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

Sad, but golf balls are the only things that won't take that home-team bounce for me. But I can go you one better: My phone slid out of the front pocket and was falling toward the hole so I kicked at it and punted out into the darkness and six inches of fresh snow. I was looking for it when my wife called me. None the worse for wear (though I dropped it in the salt water a few months later; sayonara.)

Bummer Eh! crazy.gif

For future gadgets, you might wish to pick up a few waterproof cases from Nature Vision. They have models that a cell phone, camera, or a GPS can fit in and you can still use them. Slip them in and they are 100% waterproof but functional.

A few other outfits make them too. I use the Nature Vision model and I have netted my phone out of the Red not once, but twice, and it still works fine.

Yup, they do float if you were wondering.

I am always afraid that my keys are going to end up down the hole.. I usually end up putting the keys uner the seat of the truck so that they cant. My cell hone stays in a jacket pocket that is zipped!!!!

Kyler-man I feel you pain bro!... its just the fishing gods taking a little back for all the joy it gives you!!!!

Comfort is knowing you are not the only one!

All is not always lost though. I dropped my digital camera in the water over 2 years ago. It was submerged for about 20 minutes before I was able to snag it and pull it out. First thing I did was take out the battery, opened all the little doors and pulled out the memory card. When I got home I set it out on a towel and left it sit several days. When all the visible moisture had disappeared, I popped in the battery and card and low and behold it still worked. Still works to this day with not a problem yet.

I also dropped my Motorola Talkabout in the river one time and had to search around for a while to even find it. It was a real shallow area and faily clear but none the less it was gone for several minutes. Same deal, took out the batteries and left it sit several days and it still works today.

Now with cell phones, ah... I was not so lucky.....they dont like to swim.

It is nice to know that I'm not the only one. I've never lost my phone or camera down the hole but did lose a tent pole, tackle, fishing pole, flashlight, and a couple of those reel handle retaining thumbscrews.

I have dropped the phone in the lake while loading or launching the boat. The best drop, if you ask my nephew, is while untangling his fishing line from my old 20 hp outboard, I fell into the lake. Nothing holds the prop up out of the water, so don't lean on it! We laugh about it now.

The only thing not dropping down the hole these days is the bobber. Skunked again last night.

When I was a kid and I wasn't getting bit, I would hold the bobber down with my rid tip, hoping that if I held it under the water long enough it would get water logged... LOL.. ohh to be a kid again...

Been there......the first night up a LOW last year I was getting the ice off a bobber and the camera slipped out of the front pocket of my overalls! I was so [PoorWordUsage]ed. Definitely sucks to see $400-$500 gone jsut like that.

I had my Buddy's Gerber in my shirt pocket and I leaned over the hole to get my line off the Vex float and splash! Down the hole it goes, I'm like, OH S&*T!

Well heres what happened I had my rod on my homemade rod tipper (its my million dollar idea tongue.gif ) and my bobber stop was right at the bottom on the ice (15" of ice). When it went in the hole it slid on my line and got caught on the stop! I couldn't believe it! I was so careful not to bump my rod and I reached down the hole grabbed it and brought it back up. I was really happy, otherwise I'm sure I would be paying him $60 for a new one. shocked.gif Lol I told him I didn't care b/c like his anyways, his is too hard to snap open, mine is so much easier (was kidding about the I don't care of course). grin.gif
