What's more enjoyable? Catching limit or catching a couple large fish?

Tough one.

I love action. Isn't that why we fish? To feel the tug on our line.

But the longer I'm at it, the more I enjoy trying to catch the biggest I can of a particular species.

I spend a number of days each winter watching tip-ups on Lake of the Woods waiting for a 40 incher to trip a flag. I will say there is not much action on these days. Sometimes there is but you can't count on it at all. I guess its about the chase.

Releasing a limit of LBDN Hawgs! I do fish quite a few days a year to catch limits of eaters, but most of the time I position myself to catch a Hawg or two along with them. That way you never know if that flag or board is going to hold a 15" fish or a 32" fish.

I too think just being out is the reward. I can remember once w/ my brother in law that we could do no wrong. I had never caught so many LMB's or Northerns in one day that it was like a good day of pan fishing(in comparison for lack of better wording)None were of "look at the size of that thing" just plenty of action. So my opinion could change quickly if....

Would you rather catch a lot of keeper sized fish, or only a couple of larger fish?

Kylersk - I've been reading your posts, I would say you should be happy with what you can get to bite smile.gif

Just giving you a bad time cool.gif

I would say I like catching fish, but if I can caught a few bigger fish vs. lots of smaller fish- the reward is that much sweeter!

I don;t care if I catch my limit or just one or so big fish, Fishing for me is more than that, it is being out on a lake or river, alone or with friends, enjoying the enviorment, the company of friends, or oh yes, the solitude of being alone.I have though about more things and worked out problems while fishing than at any other time.Fishing is suposta be relaxing and enjoyful, catching a limit or a few big ones are just a plus for me.

I'm past the large fish stage...I've caught a Walleye over 9 pounds, I've got pike over 15 pounds. Both largemouth and smallmouth over 4 pounds and lots of other biggies in between.

I don't have anyone to show off my fishing prowess to anymore, everyone I know/knew has moved beyond that spot.

My older friends know I can do it, as they themselves can and the younger troops either expect that you can, or brush you off as being ineffectual in todays market, so you have to move along with what makes you comfortable.

I like to catch fish that can be kept or released, if so desired....I like to catch fish! Not little dinks, anyone can do that, but a fairly respectable fish.

Using knowledge, fishing ability, going on the hunt and getting the target you are after, thats what I like.

It does'nt have to be a limit, just so I make contact with the target and enjoy myself doing it.

I love to keep busy and catch allot of fish. I would be happiest catching 14 in walleyes all day if I could. But it sure is nice to get the big one. A buddy and I were fishing together a couple years ago in my house. The night before I got a limit of nice 14-15 eater fish so he came along hoping for similar results. We only caught 2 fish that night I got one that as 14" and well he did a little better than I did. He managed a 9.5#. So that night was worth it too.
